Your study is conducting a survey in 10 clinics. Have you considered how this could also be studied and used in areas that might not have clinics? What type of social impact might it have in Cameroon in areas without clinics, and how would you overcome challenges to learning and uptake of the tool?
Hi Jessica,
My study conducted a survey of health workers in 10 clinics in the Santa health Destrict in the north west region of Cameroon. I will want a larger study to be carried out in the north west region before the training starts. As for your important questions , we have some serious problems in areas without clinics and with birth attendance but if we have nurses or midwives we can also train them on the use of partograph. For this programme to work effectively we need minimum health workers with basic health knowledge . we are just empowering this nurses on good monitoring of labour and to be able to refer parturents at the right moment .
In Cameroon the health care system is divided into health destrict and this destrict have a reference destrict hospital which all health areas with health centers refer their patient for better management . With this model nurses and midwives in the health center will be able to refer difficult labour cases on time because of the knowledge they will get from the proper use of a partograph. This partograph will make it easier to follow up a parturient in labour. It will help in the early detection of complication
and for the better management of women in labour.
You should look into the CliniPAK at maternova.net. I believe it has a portable partograph included in it which would be helpful in areas without a clinik.
Hi Jake,
I try to go to CliniPAK at maternova.net but I could not fine CliniPAK. The portable partograph is what we are using in our training . Thanks for the help. My real problem with this model is how to train traditional birth attendance. Most of them have no formal medical training it will be difficult to train them.
There are many entrants dealing with training traditional birth attendants. Look through some entries and you will find them. You might be able to form partnerships or gain advice from those entrants.
