Canımız Kampüste: Lessons Outside the Books and on the Streets

Reason:

CS is more than just an organization promoting women's empowerment and safety on the streets. Canimiz Sokakta fills an important gap in Istanbul and Turkish society, and that is the mere conversation or awareness that street harassment and and discrimination occur and jeopardize public safety as a whole. CS Kampuste, through its innovative use of an interactive blog, online social media tools, physical and virtual campaigns, webinars and traditional media, helps historically discriminated populations - with an emphasis on women - find a voice and power to demand their right to a safe public space. As a resident of Istanbul, I know how important the issues that CS Kampuste is raising are, and no one else is doing what they do.
