Lopsided access to information, that girls,unlike boys, face when growing up, is the preserve of this idea. It is aimed at addressing unequal educational opportunities that daunt the girl child through a mobile phone application, that borrows from classroom curriculum and synthesizes it into short messages that can be accessed by the female subscribers.
Education for the girl child, especially in Kenya, has become somehow a mirage, granted the conservative practices like the female genital mutilation and early marriages, the latter being attributed to lack of finances to take female children to school. This has seen many girls drop out of school.The access to information has too been monopolized by men, whose comparative intellectual advantage has disproportionately placed them ahead.

The solution that I am offering shall be pegged on a mobile phone application, which shall be used as a platform to disseminate information regarding simple arithmetic, agricultural information, women rights-and human rights in general,English lessons, and information on entrepreneurship and such opportunities.
Education can easily be acquired through leveraging on such technological innovation, which combines classroom learning and the versatile mobile phone application.Experts shall be invaluable in crafting the curriculum, which shall operate by learners subscribing to the service at a monthly nominal fee that shall be charged upfront upon subscription.
Learning shall be in stages, and shall employ a seamless Short Messaging Service which shall be monitored and effected by a mobile-phone service. This would ensure that girls access education cheaply,affordably, and without the hustles of getting to school for classroom instruction.
This way,illiteracy would be history.

This application offers a hassle free avenue of accessing information, even in the remotest parts of Kenya, because mobile phones have a national spatial reach. All one needs to have is the handset, and an urge to learn. Information shall be offered to subscribers at the comfort of their palms.
A very concrete example is the North-Eastern Province, which experiences extremes of temperature. Learning in those areas are usually discontinued by 11 am because of the hostilities of weather. The same happens to the bordering nation of Southern Sudan. The failed state of Somalia is not an exception either.It can be seen that if learning is impeded to this extent, how much more are girls alienated from educational discourse through such acts of God and other patriarchal systems that are evident in our societal orientation?
The application shall employ a database creation, of the various thematic areas, for instance human rights and entrepreneurship. An assemblage of the database would be the initial stage, alongside the development of the program. Expert consultation with experienced educationists would be invaluable at this stage. A patenting application shall precede all this stage, to allow for a worry-free development of the service.
Mapping of the areas to be incorporated into the learning portal shall be undertaken by the curriculum developers.

My major competitor-cum-peer is Nokia East Africa which is in the process of rolling out a mobile-learning solution in partnership with learning institutions. I envision a customized learning platform with a wider array of themes. I am offering a holistic education-cum-mentorship program, hence the name M-ENTOR, which connotes the fact that it is mentorship through the mobile phone.
Others working on addressing the educational gap are the Kenya School of Technology Studies, which offers mobile learning services. The difference between my envisaged service and the competitors' is that mine shall be customized to address girl-child issues through mentorship, unlike what my competitors are offering. They leverage on technological expertise and footing, which I do not have at the moment.

My solution has not been launched, so I can not categorically state its impact. I envision a great shift from the norm in terms of content delivery in educational, economic as well as mentorship circles. A lot of subscribers are expected to sign up for the service, and it shall attract quite a huge clientele base.
Self-paced learning coupled with the first-hand information acquisition and a multifaceted thematic orientation attributes, make it a high quality mode of transmitting information.Moderated learning by the educational oversight bodies would ensure that the quality of learning tutorials is monitored.

I anticipate to have a reach that spans upwards of 100,000 subscribers to the service. This shall be expected to encompass primary school girls, university and college girls and women in society.
I anticipate to inculcate literacy in the Kenyan society to a greater percentage; Thus reduce illiteracy by 5%, thus increase female literacy rate to 88.54% from 83.54% as it were in 2009, going by a literacy report by World Bank, published in 2010.

I was showering while listening to a radio programme,which was awash with lots of girl-child development priority areas, and I thought that if educational as well as economic deprivation is one of them, then I should do something about it, and it should be able to massively reach the feminine audience and impact their lives. I thought technological underpinning would be convenient. That is how I thought that M-ENTOR would be ideal, since education ranked top in the priority list, and a mobile application would assemble a wider reach of the masses.
