Describe Your Idea
INOVAÇÃO
Describe your idea in fewer than 50 words.
We started this organization in the view that farmers were producing cash and food crops but sabotaged by middlemen by giving them very low prices. This even hand capped them from educating their children and affected on their health status in their homes.
What makes your idea unique?
To curb the malpractices that was rampant in crop sales and purchases. We started lobbing for organic companies from Kampala to come down to Bundibugyo in order for them to deal with the farmers directly than middle men collecting money from these companies in a way of cheating farmers in pricing their crops. Companies so far attracted to Bundibugyo are:
• OLAM Uganda limited and others.
What is your area of work? (Please check as many as apply.)
Education , Development & Prosperity , Community development , Food security , Hunger , Poverty alleviation , Rural development , Sustainable agriculture .
What impact have you had?
Companies in conjunction with our Association / Organization have trained farmers in organic production thus planting, weeding, pruning, inter-cropping, drying method in case of cocoa, storage and carrying out inter and external inspection famers who lead to certification and enabling these companies to reach the unique international organic markets hence better prices for farmer’s crops. Due to the rise in farmers crops prices , development indicators envisaged are:
• Improving on farmers children education
• Improving on health care management
• Improving on shelter, from grass thatched to iron sheeted shelters.
• Farmers have been trained to get into petty business
• Skills in new methods of farming (organic production in general improves income and live hood).
Describe the primary problem(s) that your project is addressing.
The primary problems that my project is addressing are: Low prices in the farming community, lack of good farming practices, low level of Education for not having better income generation projects, poor health care, poor housing, food security, pests, diseases and predators, exploitation of farmers, psycho-social problems, introduction of more crops and livestock other than cocoa and vanilla plus fruits.
Describe the steps that your organization is taking to make your project successful.
Steps that my organization is taking are as follows. Lobbing and advocacy for farmers better crop market, training in organic production (cocoa and vanilla), training farmers on financial management and commercial farming, introduction of new crops like fruits, mobilization and sensitization about the values of education , HIV prevention and sanitation.

What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?
The defining moment that led me to this innovation is to have a community free from poverty, free from hunger, free from diseases, free from exploitation, due to ignorance, thus by teaching and training the community on how to practice proper methods of farming e.g. growing crops and rearing animal and look for people who can buy these produce at a reasonable price so that the whole community can be able to educate their children, improve on health status and caring of orphan by giving or establishing vocational schools with aim of improving their skills.
Tell us about the social innovator behind this idea.
The social innovator behind this idea was/is to put measures on how to practice proper methods of farming, storage, handling hence good price for produce which will result to educating properly their children, having enough food and be able to support their health status.
