What makes your idea unique?

The traditional vegetable species are rich in nutritional nutrients such as iron, calcium and magnesium, which are limited in exotic vegetables like cabbages. The traditional vegetables are organic(no chemicals used) and can withstand harsh conditions like dry spells, while exotic species contain chemical residues since they are sprayed during production, the chemicals affect life expectancy in on e way or another.
It is against this background of non-sustainable use of the environment towards food production and alternative strategy to develop linkages between diversity of resources’ and sustainable livelihood.

Problem

As a result of climate change and the ever increasing population ratio to the land cover patterns, food insecurity is increasing every year. This is as a result of erratic rainfall patterns and prolonged dry spells leaking behind unsustainable amount of soil moisture to sustain cropping systems hence the reduced crop yield or even total crop failure. The increased population has reduced or destroyed the traditional /indigenous vegetable species in the flora patterns.

Actions

Activities involved.

2) Mobilization of target/working groups.
3) Education and awareness on the benefit of traditional vegetables as food.
4) Piloting two village bulking plots for the vegetable production, these sites will provide planting materials for the sealing up purposes.
