What makes your idea unique?
Food insecurity and poor nutrition in the developing countries will continue to persist on the subsistence food production households. In our situation on the Lake region, the main staple foods are maize and fish, the unreliable rainfall have reduced the sustainable maize yields to very little or nil, the fish catch have also reduced due to the invasion of water hyacinth which hinders fishing. This region needs an alternative approach to the poor nutrition due to food insecurity.

Problem
Food insecurity and poor nutrition in the developing countries will continue to persist on the subsistence food production households. In our situation on the Lake region, the main staple foods are maize and fish, the unreliable rainfall have reduced the sustainable maize yields to very little or nil, the fish catch have also reduced due to the invasion of water hyacinth which hinders fishing.
Actions
1) Identification and construction of mushroom growing sites.
2) Training the pilot target groups on the mushroom growing methodology.
3) Harvesting, collection and preparation of(water hyacinth/forest resources/agricultural left overs) planting media.
4) Inoculation of mushroom seeds into the planting media and further management of young mushroom to mature mushrooms.
5) Harvesting and value addition of mature mushrooms.
6) Marketing of value added mushroom products.

Goal : To achieve sustainable nutrition and rural development.
