Hi Rachna
Thanks a lot for your appreciation.
This has not been tried yet. I am trying contacting NGO who can help me contacting farmers and teach them to grow these products. I am sure that it will be a gr8 venture.
Hi Nikhil,
Since the world is now realizing the importance of healthy food, would organic farming for the whole project be a more viable option instead of chemical fertilizers? Would the Spirulina waste be adequate as manure for large-scale production of mushrooms? This would also ensure a sustainable environment apart from a chemical-free end product.
Hi Rachna
Thats a wonderful idea to go for organic farming. As for starting up with the project, we need to go with chemical fertilizers first. If the project goes well, we would surely go for organic farming. As you would have noticed in the pic which I have updated, I have mentioned the same thing. Spirulina waste could serve as food for mushroom production, aquaculture as well as seed culture for spirulina production itself.
Another query I had was...do these farmers sell the products directly to the market or will there be a central cooperative system which will buy these products and sell it to the consumers?
Also, is this plan specifically for desert regions, or can it be replicated in any environment?
We here at Green Desert would train farmers to set up their own small scale farms which they could manage with the help of their family members itself.
After the production, they would sell the Spirulina to our cooperative society, which would be then sold as powder, tablets, capsules etc.
Same will be the case with mushrooms and fishes.
In turn, the farmers would be paid as per the quality and quantity of the product.
Note: 1 kg of spirulina could fetch upto 30 to 50 U.S.D.
Spirulina is known as a future food; helps combating malnutrition and boost up immune system and energy.:)
This idea could be applied anywhere irrespective of any specific conditions. But one has to maintain a temp between 20* to 35* C for maximizing the productivity.
I am glad that you are so interested in my project.
Waiting for your next question.:):):)
Dear Gaston
In my view, Social Businesses are the businesses By the society, of the society and for the society.
Hence the main challenge so that these business can thrive is the proper connection and channelization of funds and opportunities amongst and between the society.
These challenges include its very own existance that is how well it is aligned with the solutions of the problems faced by the society and second its sustainence, that is how properly are the funds used to expand the services provided by the company.
My model of social business that is Green Desert frames socitey as the producer and the consumer as well. Hence, the proper unhindered channelization of the resources is must for it to thrive. It should also benefit both the producer and consumer groups at the same time as well.

I want to follow AMUL's story to make this idea successful.
Please post your valuable comments to help me improve this idea.
This is a very interesting idea.
Has this been tried before? If yes, what has been the success rate? Are farmers willing to try it out?
