This is a wonderful idea. All companies should look to partner with social causes for the good of our world and a catalyst for change. Terrific idea to pair your skin care line against a cause you are passionate about...fighting skin trade and violence against women.
I know that purchasing from companies such as yours who provide a platform for global and local change will be a priority of mine from this point forward.
Wouldn't it be facinating to see the company empower freed women to sell the product to further help fund their freedom? I think so!
Hi Anne, thanks so much for your encouragement and for "joining" our brand of social impact! Love your idea. I can see freed women working for any P.S.I.2 companies. Thank you for your strong desire to prevent violence against women.
Everyone can do something to help end slavery. This is a level headed and yet intensely passionate plan to engage people in the areas of social justice and planetary preservation through the choices we make every day.
I absolutely agree. I don't know how people can go on knowing that human trafficking is occurring so often. I feel that because most of this trafficking takes place in other countries, people don't understand how it really effects women/children/mothers/or any other family member. I mean, what if that was happening to your own child? Then they would become more passionate about the issue. However I don't feel it necessary to have someone in your own family experience such a horrible thing to make yourself take action. We are the ones who need to take action!
Hi Hannah, Thank you for your thoughts. I think the problem lay in what people perceive as the time/money issue. They hear about violence, but don't have time to volunteer, or money to simply give. We both know if it was OUR child, the time/money problem would go away. We would move heaven and earth to bring our child home safely. What this new social/business will do is draw women (and men) in with their normally spent income for cutting edge goods/services. They then have 'joined' the brand, and have donated simply through their purchase. As we educate and offer them simple access and action to the real violence in the world of women, there will grow a connection. It is in connection, that passion and action will grow. Just like the connection of parents to their own children. GET READY FOR A NEW AND BETTER BUSINESS DAY!
It makes me feel sick to know that so many people know so much about this kind of thing and just brush it off, because it isn't happening to them. (That is until that someone's child ends up in this kind of mess and if effects them personally) People need to stand up to do something before it gets to that point. I get angry thinking about how these people bring women in and force them into this thing like they own them. I think it is awesome that you are doing something like this to help fight for the freedom of the women who should never have had it taken from them in the first place. I agree with Hannah, we need to take action and you are doing an amazing thing.
Exactly, Elizabeth. We'll move through the anger and let it fuel the fire of action! And unless we're connected to the right people, we just don't know. And even after we know, what can we DO?
This is exactly the brilliance of our strategy. We will get into the homes and hearts of women world-wide through something we purchase every day. Skin Care. And then we'll send money and helping hands, both to our own neighborhoods, and across the world.
Beauty is deeper than skin. We will use the depth of our beauty to prevent violence against women!
I've considered buying products that donate a dollar of their proceeds to a special cause. Frankly, I'm often skeptical whether the money ever reaches the intended recipients and whether this is a "gimmick" to get me to buy. What I like about Skin Care/Skin Trade is the equality of focus on the actual product I'm buying along with the cause I'm supporting. It doesn't feel like an afterthought but rather a focus which builds my trust for the brand. I also like the catchy connecting phrase...skin care/ skin trade. I'm a woman who wants organic skin care while my trafficked sister wants freedom from slavery. It puts my life in perspective and provides me a "do-able" opportunity to join the fight.
As these companies provide education on issues like trafficking, I believe that purchasing products would be the first step to deeper involvement.
Also, when you assemble several companies under a P.S.I. squared umbrella, you've motivated me to buy from other socially conscious businesses. I would imagine that the synergy created from multiple social businesses will improve business for all--which frees and educates more women at risk. I believe women will buy in...and feel good about it!
Thank you so much for your input Sandy. You hit the nail on the head...it puts our lives in perspective. Reason enough to strategize and fight with everything we have!
I have also wondered what happens to the money from products purchased that claim a portion of the purchase price will go toward some cause (as in Dawn dishsoap). I fully support some of these efforts, but would like to see the actual financials - the proof that the money is actually providing charitable goods and/or services.
Hi Brenda, thank you for your comments. You are going to love this new kind of company. I think your doubts are shared by millions. We will work hard toward a new day and coalition of true and verifiable socially movtivated business. You will finally get to be a part of real impact with your normally spent income, motivating all to real action.
The TRUST FACTOR - We will be using the services of an outside 'watchdog' to report on our donations so you will know that you know where the money is going. Then, on our website, we will report on the IMPACT those donations are having.
This is a great product and the cause they are fighting for is great. We have the oppertunity to spread knowledge of the horrific things happening to women all over the world. We have the power to end slavery in our life time. Knowledge is power and we all can help with the purchase of this product and/or spreading the word on Humman trafficing. Lets be the voice for those who have no voice to be heard except for their tears of hope that someone will save them. We have the oppertunity to be that hope and put a stop to the 3rd largest crime the world today.
Human trafficking really isn't something you hear many people trying to do something about. The movie "Taken" is the first time I have really seen anyone shine a whole lot of light on what is actually happening.
We donate money to help children in other countries and even to save animals, but this problem seems to be left in the dust. So many women and young girls end up losing their freedom, youth, and innocence and people just don't seem to be willing to help. When I watched that movie I was really upset and irritated, especially because in these other countries the people you look to for help (the police) are a part of the problem.
We take for granted our freedom and we also forget that so many people don't have it. If we can go into other countries and declare war to set those people free, we can try to save women from becoming sex slaves.
I was really excited when I heard of what you were doing. I would really like to see this idea expand and hopefully make a big difference and I am willing to do what I can to help. I am going to pass this on to all of my friends and family, because I think this is definitely an amazing thing that they should all try and be a part of.
I agree with you completely and wanted to add that we have to remember that it isn't just something happening in other countries, but it is happening in the US and in often in places you'd never dream of.
I appreciate that you brought up taking our freedom for granted. It's true. And look at skin care specifically. We hope to look younger, while millions of girls and women are simply trying to survive another day - to be older.
The strategy behind 1+1=millions impacted - or, Skin Care/Skin Trade...changing the face of the world (and all the myriad of ways we can replicate it), will bring us into daily connection with our freedom, and the lack of it for millions. And then use that connection to create a platform for real action.
I get excited when I hear you getting excited about forging a future where we can really make a difference in the lives of all women! Thank you Elizabeth.
Thank you so much for the providing a plan that would enable an unlimited number of businesses to join in this cause. I agree that it would be great to be able to follow monetarily the givings toward the cause and know of goals that are set. Feeling like there is a "win" when certain amounts/goals are reached and fueling the urge for consumers to spend where the Biggest Influence is for their buck.
Day Away Botanicals is a wonderful product that I honestly have to say is the best skin care out there. I used to be a consultant for another skin care line but Day Away is Simply Better. My skin looks and feels better than it ever has before.
Thank you so much Shannan! Loved your encouragement to set goals - with 'goals met' victories to keep us going.
While at the grassroots level we are having "Liberation Celebrations" - our version of the girl party to sample Day Away Botanicals skin care and learn what's really happening in the modern day slave trade, we could have "Liberation Celebrations" on our website with those goals we reach. Love it!
One person at a time.
I am very happy to point out the my dear friends have
created a product to change the world for better skin
and also help women in other countries. This is Powerful stuff. GET THE PASSION!
YES! One woman at a time. In ALL countries, even as violence against women is an issue in our own neighborhoods. Thank you Sharon. Get the passion...infect your neighbor! Over and over and over, around the globe, and back again. We WILL change the face of it all.
Being the mother of three beautiful daughters, I am extremely concerned about the fairness women receive in their occupations and with health issues. I am extremely delighted with Ms. Harris' products and her feelings on all women. Women in all professions in all parts of the world need to be treated fairly. PW
Wow! I just finished reading your entry. Like you it is full of energy. I especially admire your commitment to equitable pay for all involved and a contribution to a worthy cause. Knowing you for the last 10 years I know this is a true lifestyle commitment, not just a line. Having tried your product I can attest to it's quality, affordabilty, and commitment to ending violence toward women. Together we can make a difference.
While I'm truly looking to test and refine my ideas, I have searched my heart for misplaced ego. I can definitely say that I am not looking for personal encouragement, but rather idea polishing.
Having said that, many people in my life are encouraging of me as an individual. And I always try to let it sink in, and heighten the drive I experience as "thing big, ACT BIGGER".
But on occasion, encouragement comes in a powerful form. And this one caught in my chest. I want to be known as "lifestyle commitment, not just a line". Thank you Denise. I am more determined than ever!
Susan, I agree. As a corporate and a cultured America, we could use a better image right now. I love your thoughts and your passion in sharing them. I love a product that teaches my daughter not only about the natural beauty of a woman, but also about her right to dignity. Purity is worth protecting on any playing field and corporate America could be leading the way. There's something irresistible about a company who believes in something more than its product alone. I applaud Day Away and would go out of my way to purchase products and services from companies fighting against the slave trade.
Amen to all of your comments...I especially like that you're thinking about what you and certain products can teach your daughter about her beauty as a woman.
Such brillant thoughts and idea's from the women who have commented thus far on this topic!
Hi Amy Jo, I'm moved by your input, in particular on behalf of your daughter! You said it so beautifully ~ "not only about the natural beauty of a woman, but also about her right to dignity".
I believe that while we work on a new idea -reaching into the medicine cabinets, pantries and hands of women everyday- there will be powerful impact as our daughters stand by our side watching us wash our faces. They will not question their power to change the world. It's an every day thing. An everyday choice.
If you're not aware of him, I'd like to introduce you to Zach Hunter. He was only 12 when he learned that slavery still exists today. He founded a group Loose Change to Loosen Chains, nicknamed LC2LC. He also published a book for teens called Be The Change: Your Guide to Ending Slavery and Changing the World.
We can prevent violence against women. We can teach our daughters that purity is worth protecting. We can and we will.
And we are sisters--and we need to support each other. I was reading an article the other day that talked about how many aid organizations, economists, etc. are looking to invest more money in women and children's rights and issues--when these often "least looked upon" people are taken care of, things nationwide begin to happen.
Thank you for your thoughts, Gillian. I love that you talk about nations taking action, based on us, the grassroots heart and soul of those nations. It takes the actions of people for a country to stand up and say "NO MORE; we'll put our money where your mouth has been!". More prevention on the way.
Susan, so sorry it took me so long to get around to visiting this site. I will read the posts later, I didn't go to sleep last night and am super tired, going to take a nap. I think its absolutely wonderful what you are doing, and I want to be as much a part of it as I can. To the other posters, I go by Jinx but you can call me Mary if you prefer. I put a lot of info on my profile just now lol. I look forward to discussing issues with all of you soon.
This is exactly what I've seen happening. As we work toward combining everyday purchase items with Violence Against Women Prevention, this is the response I get every day - "I want to be as much a part of it as I can." This innovation so resonates with women. It's a brand they can join. It's a brand they can participate in. It's a place of safety and powerful impact in the world. Thanks, Mary. Looking forward to your thoughts on "Skin Care/Skin Trade ... changing the face of the world!"
Dear Susan,
This plan is one of the best ideas I have ever heard of with regard to 'problem solving.' The slave trafficking of human beings is an abomination! The development of a great product, by a company who promises transparency in its pricing and who is dedicated to the cause of ending human trafficking, is ingenious. Bless you for your dedication to this imperative cause with a wonderful product. The 1 + 1 = millions inspires commitment and action.
Who knew you could take a hot off the press organic skin care company and end up on a world stage. With world changing commitment and action. Yet here we are. It's a new day. It requires us to take a big swing at the evils of the world from any direction that will be efficient and effective. And it will take commitment and action from any and all we can gather up!
Did you all see the news that Ohio has 1,000 Ohio children trafficked within it, and another 8,000 foreigners trafficked into it? I don't know of any statistics for Michigan...but this is something that goes on in this country as well. Awareness of it overseas and here in the US is the first step. Taking action like Susan is the second.
We have many 'violence education' challenges to tackle, not the least of which is understanding it as a problem that is present in all societies regardless of social class and purchasing power. It's not merely a third world problem. If it can happen in Ohio, it can happen anywhere.
We need to know it's happening, know the signs of violence, and be committed to reporting even questionable activity to the authorities.
Susan, - Wow! Your exuberance overflows with this idea, and driven people, throughout history, are the men and women who change the world. I love films; Pass It Forward comes to mind. "defend the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy;" PS 82:3 Openning people's eyes to injustice and appealing to women's empathy and compassion will work. Thanks for sharing your passion and purpose with me; what you and others are doing to raise awareness and make a difference is vitally important. May it be empowered by many!
Beth Ann
Thank you Beth Ann. That's exactly what I'm finding. As soon as a woman KNOWS what's happening -all the injustice of violence against women- it's not possible to do nothing. There's our empathy. There's our compassion. I think the cool part of this plan is that it will give meaning to our everyday choices. It will lay out a simple plan to act on that empathy and compassion. I love your words~ (it) will work ...May it be empowered by many!
I love what you are doing! Changing the Face of the World...One Woman at a Time. There were reruns on tv this week due to the olympics, and CSI had their three shows connected with a human trafficking theme on Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday nights. I watched them the 1st time around. This is something that could & does happen anywhere. This is an issue that has never even crossed my mind until you became active in fighting it. You go girl!
Thank you Brenda. This is what Day Away Botanicals, and all who are joining, finds every day. We just don't know. Even with all the beautiful organizations out there working to educate us. But once we do, our compassion and outrage says, "charge"! Companies that produce excellent products that women really use equally paired with care for the hurting, have a beautiful, soft whisper into their hearts. Which they in turn whisper to all their friends. And this soft breeze, blowing from town to town, turns into a very loud roar. The combination of a woman's compassion and communication, lit on fire by something as simple as their every day routine, is one of the most powerful things on earth!
Amazing. Who would have thought that by using a great product, (which I use and highly recommend!), that we could learn about, and help a cause that needs way more light shed upon it. No longer can stick our heads in the sand, and act like this problem doesn't exist. Keep up what you are doing!
I just read a really cool quote. It said, "You have not truly lived, until you help someone who can never repay you." You are living, girl!
"Truly lived..." Love it ~ Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic motivation. At the heart of Skin Care/Skin Trade...changing the face of the world is the fact that while women will purchase high quality organic skin care, they also long to do something worth doing regardless of the potential outside rewards for themselves; intrinsically motivated.
As we commence to implement (beyond our humble grassroots beginnings) the adventure of encouraging this internally motivated action, I am excited. I already know that women want to be a part of an adventure, leaving the world better than they found it. I am not alone.
From Jeremy Hunter, Director of Research at the Quality of Life Research Institute, "Weigh the forces that intrinsic and extrinsic motivations are exerting in your life, and start creating a healthier shift toward your own internal, high-velocity catalysts. You’ll be amazed at how far they can take you."
Education about modern day slavery is very necessary. This is a subject that no one talks about, no one likes to hear about, and our children don't even know about. I believe changing the world's view on slavery, including the cultural mindsets against the dignity of womanhood, is the answer to this horrific problem. When minds are renewed, hearts will be changed and people will begin to take action. Beautifying the outward appearance of women, while teaching us how to help others is a business with a double purpose. Thank you for taking the lead on something so difficult to address.
As I read your comments, Angie, I was drawn back to the book CAPTIVATING, by John & Stasi Eldredge, drawn back to the heart of a woman... 1. To be wanted and fought for; 2. To play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure, not merely for adventure's sake, but for what it requires of us FOR others; 3. To unveil beauty; our desire to delight and be delighted in, not just the desire for an outward beauty, but more - a desire to be captivating in the depths of who we are! AND WE ARE CAPTIVATING!!!
And then there are the captives, slaves...who long to be captivating for the right reasons (not for a buck, like a cattle bought and sold). And I sighed a deep sigh, and started another day with renewed zeal to set those captives free.
Preventing violence against women can and must happen. I believe it will primarily come from the heart of women, hearts that are captivating. Thank you so much for your comments.
I have always heard that human trafficking was very much alive in our country as well as all over the world but I never realized how big a problem it was. I'm sure many other aren't aware of this problem either and the ideas you have to raise awareness seem to be a great way to educate women and get us started on changing our world.
Thank you El Shaddai. The practicality of the concept of fusing women's purchasing power and needs, along with a purpose that reaches deep into our hearts, grows with fire and passion inside me with each new comment. We will serve millions by getting into the hands, medicine cabinets, pantries and hearts of millions. I can't thank everyone enough for all their input!

I agree whole heartedly!
I absolutely agree. I don't know how people can go on knowing that human trafficking is occurring so often. Thank you for your thoughts, Gillian. I love that you talk about nations taking action, based on us, the grassroots heart and soul of those nations. It takes the actions of people for a country to stand up and say "NO MORE; we'll put our money where your mouth has been!". More prevention on the way.
And we are sisters...YES!
"The 1 + 1 = millions inspires commitment and action."
That's so powerful.
Hi Su,
Who knew you could take a hot off the press organic skin care company and end up on a world stage.
Hi Gillian,
We have many 'violence education' challenges to tackle, not the least of which is understanding it as a problem that is present in all societies regardless of social class and purchasing power. It's not merely a third world problem. If it can happen in Ohio, it can happen anywhere.
We need to know it's happening, know the signs of violence, and be committed to reporting even questionable activity to the authorities.
Together, we can do this.
All the way to Preventing Violence Against Women.
Thank you Lorey!
