Tell us about the person—the social innovator—behind this idea.
Gultan Bingol was born in Mus in 1962. She migrated first to Izmit in 1987 because of political reasons, then to Istanbul in 1991 because of her husband's assignment. She first worked in a private kindergarden as a cook and as a babysitter. She had been thinking to do something for the women who couldn't go out of their home. Then she met with the Foundation for the Support of Women's Work (FSWW) and took a step to establish a local women cooperative for creating opportunities with and for grassroots women in her neighborhood. She has been active within the cooperative to date.
