Jody Boehnert has recently finished an AHRC funded PhD at the University of Brighton, UK in the Department of Architecture and Design. Her thesis was titled: The Visual communication of Ecological Literacy: Design, Learning and Emergent Ecological Perception. This practice-based project created an original body of work that communicates eco-literacy through graphic displays including illustrations of networks, maps and other information design while also creating learning processes in which these visuals will be used. The research will demonstrate how communication design can generate new understanding and contribute to the development of new cognitive skills and social capacities in a time of rapid societal change. Jody lives in Brixton in South London where she is also founding director of EcoLabs (http://www.eco-labs.org/), a non-profit working on the visual communication of complex issues.
