I really support your idea of more community involvement/support for people dealing with mental illness. While receiving one on one psychological counseling is beneficial for persons, they miss out on feeling a part of a larger group. An organization of people from the community helps persons to not feel alone and gives them a chance to talk about how they deal and cope with daily frustrations. Community set ups will not only help them work on socializing and leisure pursuits, but also on being advocates for themselves. They will be able to have a voice and let others know that mental illness is not only real but common. We often forget that mental illness is a disease unlike any other and that we as a community should do our part to support those dealing.
Coming from an Occupational Therapy background, I am so happy that others are realizing the importance of not only psychological health, but social health and wellness. One of our main goals as therapists is to get people back into the life they once led and for them to lead productive and most importantly fulfilling lives. Community rehabilitation models are huge catalysts for getting persons with mental illness back into their family and community lives. I wish you luck with your project idea!

I really like how this project idea involves and empowers the family members and support system of the individuals with mental health disorders.
