There is no answer to those types of violence experienced by girls, which are rather practiced in hidden, but still cause emotional damage that may accompany girls for many years by harming their self esteem, decreasing personal security and weakens their possibllity to cope with professional and social challenges later in their life.
Despite the fact that we live in the 21th century, women and young girls are still a disadvantaged population. Women and girls are the common victims to discrimination and violence and they are forced to fight for their rights and for their place in various frameworks, in all areas of life.
Unlike boys and men, who are expected to protect themselves and their causes agressively at any time, society still expects girls and women to be gentle, restrained and accept the rule of society. The result is, many women and girls lack the tools and the ncessary knowhow to cope with the discrimination and the violence which they encounter.

MEGABSHOT KOACH is an innovative project aimed at training girls how to cope actively and non-violently with violence, including sexual violence. In the project the girls are trained to initiate, lead and publicly act from a place of strength, pride, care, solidarity and pertinence.
In this project we combine together two concepts: The first is the concept of the Center for Support to Victims of Rape and Sexual Assault, which exposes the girls to statistics and theory, defines, together with them what is a harm and teaches the language and terms in which they can defne their personal borders and with which they can express their feelings and personal experiences. The second ceoncept is that of SOS Center – Israel Center for Studies of Violence, providing children and youth with practical tools for a non-violent coping with the school violence (mobbing, rumors blackmail, social banning, theft and physical violence).

Describe your idea and explain why it is innovative

There is no answer to those types of violence experienced by girls, which are rather practiced in hidden, but still cause emotional damage that may accompany girls for many years by harming their self esteem, decreasing personal security and weakens their possibllity to cope with professional and social challenges later in their life.

What kind of beneficiaries is your initiative addressed to?

Girls, Youth.

Describe the profile of the beneficiaries of this project

Target population are selected groups of 25 6th-9th grades girls each, who are sorted out as leaders and who wish to aquire the knowledge and tools and to be assisted in their coping with school violence. They form leaders-groups which become active in changing the particular school climate and the general social climate in regard to violence.

What is your initiative’s implementation strategy?

In this project we combine theory and tools of conversation and emotional expression together with behavioral tools. Emotonal-social training makes an effective mean for the formation of mutual commitment and sensitivity to others and help develop and implement principles of the girls non-volent struggle. Participating in the project empowers the girls as individuals and as a group and bestows them with knowledge and practical tools for their leadership in their struggle agains violence. Participants in the project learn through practical doing. They choose a field of action, define goals and objectives, form a way in which they achieve their goal and go out to achieve them.

In your opinion, what are the main barriers or obstacles in connection with this theme?

The specific tools we have developed to cope wth "soft violence", such as roumors, and the use of internet and cellular phones nets to humiliate and/or excommunicate students, especially girls. 2. The use of the school framework to select a leadership of girls, teach them and train them to carry on with the task of empowering girls and decreasing volence directed towards them.

What type of partnerships you have or intend to generate strategic alliances with for the development of this initiative? Choose all that apply

Non-Government organizations, Universities, Schools, Other.

Describe with whom you have generated these alliances and how

we hace a close ideoligical and practical work with the Center for Support to Victims of Rape and Sexual Assault, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Comminity Police and tens of schools.

1. Theoretical and practical knowledge in various issues of violence – including comprehensive knowledge about the extent of school violence in general and in their school in particular (through the analysis of ACHAM questionaires of the Ministry of Education Counselling Service), understanding of the outcomes of violence, learning de-escalation tools for the blocking of an attack at its early stages and protection of the victim.
2. Development of personal skills – rhethorics, inter-personal communication, body language, decsion making during discussions.
3. Progessional knowledge – lectures by representatives of the Israeli Police, a Volunteer in the Sexual Assault Victims Support Center, and coaching.
4. A Personal project – every girl will define her personal project goals, according to what she learned in the project, and objectives for the achievements of her goals. Mentors of the project will accompany every participant in all stages of her personal project.

What is the main impact that your initiative might generate?

1.To measurably reduce the level of violence that is directed to girls in Israeli schools and youth frameworks. To create an enabling climate for the girls so that they can learn free of fear of humiliation and violence.
2. To empower the girls by equipping them with effective non violent tools.
3.To introduce policy makers, educators and the general public to a new and effective alternative yet unknown in the Israeli system for fighting women's violence.
