The Meghalaya model addresses the problem on human trafficking of girls into the sex trade in India. The model recognises that due to its clandestine nature human trafficking can only be combated through a united effort from all stakeholders. The model is a multi-sector approach involving government, law enforcement, judiciary and civil society organisations that creates a comprehensive framework for combating human trafficking under the four “Ps” Prevention, Protection, Policing and Prosecution.

Reason:
This project is a revolutionary approach to the global problem of human trafficking. By focusing on engaging stakeholders the model is able to address all aspects of human trafficking. The model that Impulse has developed taps available resources of stakeholders, which are normally under utilised due to a lack of co-ordination, into a cohesive programme for the best interest of the child. By working with a variety of stakeholders children are more likely to be recovered, traffickers will face prosecution and survivors will have appropriate access to resources for rehabilitation. This holistic approach is key to seeing the end of human trafficking in the region and is a model that should be replicated throughout the globe.
