The vision is to build an online platform that allows people to virtually manage their communities & countries on a bottom up basis. Imagine a virtual dashboard(like MIS for companies)contributed on a top down basis (ie Govt. projects)and bottom up basis (individuals & NGOs) on each key issue where citizens are able to report/monitor progress(upload photos, videos, tweets, blogs, buzz).Empower people to communicate key issues, collaborate in solving it and manage/monitor online.

What makes your idea unique?

Currently there is no online platform that allows people to manage their countries on a bottom up basis, although technology is proven in other areas (Management information systems for corporate sector + social networking communities like Facebook) and access to internet has reached critical mass (particularly as mobile penetration is high even in emerging markets and mobile can be used to access internet/twitter/Facebook). Importantly, the massive success of online communities like Facebook/Orkut/Twitter prove that the time has come for this idea to be put into practise. Imagine having a GoogleMap (satellite view), with ability to click into your chosen country/city, see what the social projects are getting implemened (feed from Govt projects/uploads by NGOs/corporates), what the local people are raising as key issues in relevant online chats, hook up with other people working on similar issues, contribute online to those charities/projects that locals vote as being most useful, track progress of projects you have funded (online live monitoring by locals/NGOs through upload of photos/videos/tweets/comments), etc. These technologies are all available, but no one has put it together yet. It would make massive social and commercial sense, in my humble opinion.

Do you have a patent for this idea?

Impact

What impact have you had?

The project has not been implemented yet.

Problem

I have raised it with one IT company so far, but it needs to reach some large companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft or Yahoo to put this together. The issues involved could be one of generating critical mass in some areas as a demonstration of whats possible and then roll it out to other geographies.

Actions

Made only initial contact with some IT majors - to be pursued. Hopefully this forum will get it more noticed.

What will it take for your project to be successful over the next three years? Please address each year separately, if possible.

It will take the sponsorship of one or more IT giants to put up the online platform and test it out with select communities/countries in year one. Since this project is potentially a HUGE magnet for social networking (just look at the most successful campaigns in Facebook - they are all about giving back to the community), it is likely that if this idea reaches senior executives is even a handful of these companies, one of them is bound to launch it in one year. Thereafter, the movement should be able to attract critical mass in year 2 or 3 although it may take a different form in each country.

What would prevent your project from being a success?

Lack of sponsors, lack of critical mass and ability to get in front on enough people.

How many people will your project serve annually?

More than 10,000

What is the average monthly household income in your target community, in US Dollars?

What are the three most important actions needed to grow your initiative or organization?

1) Get this idea noticed by IT majors - Google/Microsoft/Facebook/Twitter/Wikipedia/Yahoo or others with enough social network ambitions and technology.
2) Create a demo website to present to these companies - any individual with IT skills who is reading this can do this. It would be useful to showcase it to the large technology companies mentioned above.
3) Demonstrate success in any one city/country would be useful.
