“What I really liked about this initiative is that it’s not just about the stove itself, but that women have been taught to build it and sell it. Additionally, women are not limited to selling the stoves in their own villages but can travel to other villages to sell them. The whole process of disseminating and marketing was what was so appealing to me and seemed incredibly empowering. This initiative not only provides an income for women but empowers women because it increases their mobility and confidence.”
“These stoves do not belong to any government program, no one is giving anything to these women, and they are doing everything by themselves. This is extremely important because it allows these women to fix the problems themselves.”

Wood burning household stoves are used by all households in villages. So, there is no problem for markets for the stove entrepreneurs.
It has been sustainable as has been demonstrated by our stove entrepreneurs. They have been building stoves since 2003. They have earned incomes through stove construction and have been able to help their children achieve their ambitions. Ms.Lalithabai one of our earliets stove entrepreneurs was awrded the Woman Exemplar for micro-enterprises by the Confederation of Indian Industry in 2007 for her achievemnets.
The women get bulk orders for stove construction from NGOs and CBOs. Their confidence and skill has also enabled them to train others in stove construction.
