I was wondering how you would update the content on these ipod-like devices once they are distributed? It seems like it would be easier to use radio (an already distributed technology) or cell phones (often also widely distributed, but perhaps less gender-equal). There are programs where you can ring a number and it will call back with a voice menu letting you select content it will read.
Content on the audio players can be readily updated. The reason for the audio players is to reach even the most remote regions where connectivity may be a problem. Also they are so small and portable that they can be used any where at any time without any type of connectivity.
Have you been using the digital audio players in Rwanda yet? I'm working on a similar project and wonder if you have found any best or worst ideas involved with your trials. I plan to test the program in Uganda in June or July and will share our ideas and challenges as well.
We have not implemented the audio players in Rwanda yet. I would like to learn more about your project in Uganda. Please contact me directly at paulac612@gmail.com.
