I am passionate about the idea of making learning individually relevant. The best learning occurs when the student is interested and invested. In order to succeed, the student also needs a support network made of teachers and community members that are there to mentor and pave the way. I am lucky to work in a non-profit that is dedicated to changing the way we look at education and linking business and schools together to create this change.
I feel a fondness every time I make a connection between a student and a business where both parties feel that they are gaining and learning.
I would love to see the U.S. education system transform where every student has an internship experience with a local business. This is the best way to gain insight on a specific career field, get to know the community they live in, create a network, find mentors, and gain essential 21st century job skills.
