Amie is the Executive Director of New York Coalition for Healthy School Food (NYCHSF). NYCHSF is a statewide non-profit that creates change in schools through pilot programs and creating resources.
Organic gardens and farms. When I am in an organic garden or at my CSA, I feel that all is right with the world.
For all food in schools to be health supporting and disease preventing. For schools to teach food prepration and gardening. Children go to school and learn and they should learn the skills and information to grow up healthy. I want the food industry to stop influencing nutrition policy. I would like policy to be based on what we actually know about nutrition, and then let people make their own decisions about what they want to eat, based on understanding what the research really shows. That and world peace, which I think could be helped by all people getting the food they need.
I entered the non-profit world in 1995 when I started a vegetarian education group, Club Veg. I worked in tobacco-control to ban smoking in public places, for two environmental non-profits to endorse candidates for elected office who were champions of the environment, and then entered my current role as Executive Director of New York Coalition for Healthy School Food.
