Through my work for Kham Aid Foundation, a US nonprofit doing work in eastern Tibet.
I especially love the following places in Kham: Rongbatsa, Minyak, Derge.
Economic development and cultural heritage preservation in Kham. Peace and reconciliation between Tibetans and Chinese.
Pamela Logan never dreamed her career path would take her to Tibet. She intended to become a scientist, earning a PhD in aerospace from Stanford University after getting a BS and MS from Caltech.
What brought her to Asia was her study of karate, which she began in college. Inspired by the martial arts, in 1990 she applied for and won a travel grant to investigate the infamous warrior tribes of eastern Tibet, people known as Khampas. The journey lasted over a year and led to her book Among Warriors, published by Random House. This was the beginning of her lifetime involvement with the Tibetan region of Kham.
From 1994-8 Logan led five expeditions composed of international art and architecture conservators to remote Pewar Monastery. This became the subject of her second book Tibetan Rescue.
In 1996 Logan was named "Woman Explorer of the Year," an international prize awarded by the Scientific Exploration Society of Great Britain
In 1997 Logan established Kham Aid Foundation so that she could carry on more cultural heritage projects and also bring humanitarian assistance to the eastern Tibetan plateau. In its eleven years of operation Kham Aid Foundation has helped thousands of Tibetans with its education, health, and economic development programs.
