FIRE is the first women's internet radio station worldwide, created in 1991 on shoerwave radio and migrating to intrnet radio in 1998.
Women as a group do not have enough of a voice in mainstream media. We appear as vivtims only and not as proactive changemankers. Alternative media in the hnads of women do this.
This is important not only for women, but for a wolrd were alternatives are urgently needed in order to curve destructive trends in human interactions and their interactions with the resto of the planet.

• Organizer and educator, part of the Women’s No Campaign to stop Free-Trade Agreement: Costa Rica, (2006-to present).
• Co-director of Feminist International Radio Endeavor (FIRE): founded award-winning feminist international radio station and covered most UN Conferences since 1992, ranging from Rio de Janeiro, Vienna, Cairo, Beijing and Durban, and South Africa, to numerous other local, national and international conferences and events on issues of women and gender, Costa Rica (1991 to 2007). Presently a producer of FIRE.
• Author of he book, Women´s Voices on FIRE, about the first 8 years of FIRE, Anomaly Press, 2000. International Pen Club Award in Puerto Rico 2000.
• Professor of communications at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado (1998 to present) and the Institute for Further Education of Journalists (FOJO) in Sweden (1995-2000)
• Human rights activist and literacy teacher (1970s and 1980s): led and coordinated major education efforts at the grassroots level in El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
