Living in Nicaragua has profoundly changed my world view. The poverty and lack of learning resources moved me to join groups that were addressing these issues. This hobby has grown into a passion and inspired me to create educational initiatives partnering with foundations and local institutions. I am particularyl interested and qualified to help bridge the digital divide which is a core theme of my efforts.
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua is home. This beautiful beach town in southwest Nicaragua attracts tourist and residents from around the world. The mix of foreigners and locals create a wonderful community and a great opportunity for positive change.
I would like to see the kids in Nicaragua and other underdeveloped countries have the same learning opportunities as kids in the developed world. I would like to see them connected to other kids around the world and inspired to solve their local problems.
Born in Santiago de Cuba I was raised in the USA. I have been coming to Nicaragua for the past 12 years and moved permanently 5 years ago, married and had a daughter. I have worked with the Biblioteca Publica y Movil (Public and Mobil Public Library) San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. We would go around to isolated country schools and lend books then come back in a week and do the same. It was an eye opening and profound experience to see how kids felt important and we established an needed resource for educational developement. I have also worked with the St. Helena Foundation to build community housing and bring internet to the schools of the Empalme de Boaco area. I am currently working with The Global Help foundation to establish educational initiatives in the country including and Einstein Festival, Technologists students group, Youth Inventors lab and networked mini labs in remote schools.
