After 10 years of Engineering and Business experience and education, I have recently returned to school to work on my Sport Management Degree, with a particular focus on Sport for Social Empowerment and Development. During my time in school, I will be working with and doing research on a number of organizations that are using new and innovative ways to use Sport as a vehicle for change.
Being a child of Louisiana with its many racial, political, and socio-economic tensions, an LSU football game at Tiger Stadium was always a special time. Without fail, the people of the state would always come together and genuinely share a common spirit and camaraderie during that 12 hour period, which always gave me a glimpse of what is possible...
I am passionate about children, and in particular, children that are not as fortunate as I was. Sport has an amazing way of teaching life skills through games and those lessons can have a lasting impact on an individual. Most developing societies, domestic or abroad, do not have the luxury or resources to implement such programs and, as a result, these types of programs are put off to the side. We can all work to change this.
I have over 8 years of Engineering and Business experience, working in a number of capacities and in a number of industries in the US, Far East and Mexico. Working for a Fortune 100 corporation, a number of small start-ups, and my own company as an entrepreneur, I've had the opportunity to see what processes work and which ones don't.
From high school to college and thereafter, I have been involved in a number of Volunteer activities, both national and local. From after-school mentoring and tutoring to Katrina Relief efforts, everything I've experienced in my life has helped shape who I am today.
