I am interested to help working children and youth by providing computers, mics, cameras, softwares and further education. For that purpose I have founded with family and friends a non government organization with the name of Bofoki. Bofoki stands for "Books for Kids".
We would like to help underprivileged children and youth to create and publish their own books, songs, videos and music on the internet. Nothing new you may say. True. But beside this humble idea, we would like to create a new media platform for them too, giving Youtube, Myspace, Facebook and Flickr users some sort of social alternative.
Moreover we would like to be the voice for those children and youth, who otherwise would not be heard by the public.
To make our idea a success, we are looking for volunteers and people interested to support our vision. Any help would be appreciated! For further information visit our website at www.bofoki.org
I have been a volunteer at one of the SOS children villages in Jamaica W.I.
To be precise I spend one year in Kingston. It has been one of the most important years in my life. What a great experience living and working with so many beautiful people and children. Sure NOT everything is or was great in Jamaica. My first impression however, coming from a small town in Germany, was absolutely impressing. A total culture shock!
I have a strong connection to the SOS organization and admire the vision of the founder of the organization: Mr. Hermann Gmeiner, a true social entrepeneur! A true visionary!
There is so much need for change in this world. Of course I know I can not change the world, but I know that I can change my world. And this is what I am trying and trying and trying...
I would be happy to help underprivileged children and youth to learn more about the possibilities computers offer today. I am thrilled about the things one can do with a simple PC, a mic, a video camera and the right softwares. I know we can help working children to find alternate ways of income, so that they can be independent and improve their lifes. I know, because I see my daughter creating art on the computer and she is only 11years old!
As I mentioned above: I have worked as a volunteer with the SOS children village in Jamaica W.I. , this is 15 years ago. I was a young man and at that point of my life I was too busy with myself to understand the vision of Mr. Hermann Gmeiner, who has made a difference to many orphaned children today.
Later in life, after being a father myself, I developed a strong desire to help others, especially helping working children. For that purpose I have founded with family and friends a NGO with the name of Bofoki (Books for Kids).
It may sound strange, but I was searching for something that would give my life meaning, something my daughter could be proud of one day and something I am truly passionate about.
I found it: It's helping children and youth, it's creating digital contents, it's making the world a bit brighter, a bit more colorful. Anyone would like to join?
About me:
Currently I am working as a PGA Golf Professional in Spain, where I am teaching the game in the summer month. Fortunately I do so only in the summer which gives me some time in the winter, because my true passion is filmmaking, art, literature and music. But not necessarily in that order!
I really need help in making progress with our NGO. Any help would be appreciated.
