I have changed my life from one of dependence on alcohol to one that is free and powerful. Now I want to help others find the peace and freedom I have found for myself. I want people to know that each one of them is a worthwhile being who is capable of creating and living a life they love.
In my professional life I am a teacher of 10 years old children and I have a special connection with kids who don't "fit in" and who struggle with emotional issues. I always try to be an advocate for kids who don't have it easy. I also love the elderly. I have not worked with them too much - but I enjoy them so much.
I want to see society embrace the difference that is in all of us. I want each person to feel that they are an integral part of society. That they can impact their own lives and the lives of those around them. I would also like to see alternative recovery programs be as viable an option for people as AA is now.
I have taught for 22 years and do what I can to help children who don't have a good sense of self. I have volunteered with SMART Recovery for 4 years taking on roles of meeting facilitator, message board liaison, Facilitator Distance Training Coordinator and fundraiser volunteer. On New Years Eve I organized and ran a New Year's around the world party where we celebrated every hour as it turned New Years in each part of the world - I challenged people to donate $20.09 or $200.90 to help us raise $2009 for SMART Recovery. We exceeded that goal. I also have written articles for Recovery Soluntions Magazine and SMART Recovery News and Views.
