This section should really be about all of us in Green Visions.
In 2000 together with a couple of friends we set up Green Visions, an eco tourism and local development company (the first of its kind in Bosnia), and focused on promoting to both local and international community that Bosnia and Herzegovina was and is a safe and unique eco tourism destination. The motivation to do this came from meeting many people living high up in the mountains. Villagers and communities ignored by local government and struggling to make ends meet.
Now almost 9 years later, we wrote the first English language guide (Bradt), got various donors and government agencies to fund longterm tourism projects, set up a youth tourism network, brought the first trekking groups from Europe and the rest of the world over, represented Bosnia and Herzegovina on many tourism fairs, I and much more.
Lukomir highland village. A small traditional village perched on the edge of the Rakitnica canyon. The views are incredible. Life is hard and tough, but the people are warm and friendly. I have drunk many coffees and hand rolled many cigarettes while talking about life with people who are now my friends.
Young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina to feel that they can affect change in their communities. To help youth all over Bosnia and Herzegovina develop responsible and meaningful youth tourism products that are capable of generating income for themselves and their communities, while preserving fragile environment.
I came to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, just when the war/conflict started, to work with children and youth in the numerous newly opened refugee centers. My work until 2000 has largely centered around providing children and young people ways to feel safe and empowered.
In 2000 we set up Green Visions a social enterprise focused on the sustainable and responsible development of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am currently the managing partner in the organization.
