International Centre for Responsible Tourism, Leeds Metropolitan University | Senior Lecturer and Course Leader MSc Responsible Hospitalit | Leeds 0 United Kingdom
As a lecturer in the field of responsible tourism and hospitality I aim to bring about change through education. The majority of participants on our courses are professionals in the tourism/hospitality industry. Through their education and training I and my colleagues at the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) aim not just to talk or theorise about change but to actually bring it about.
Personally I am very fond of the Scottish Highlands. Their rugged beauty appeals to me and for that reason I love to take vactions there.
I would like to see tourism become more responsible. In other words I would like to see tourism create better places for people to live in, and better places for people to visit. I believe the cornerstone for this to happen is for individuals to set up responsible tourism businesses and my aim is to encourage and assist in this wherever I am able.
I am currently employed as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at the International Centre for Responsible Tourism at Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK. I am particularly interested in Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium-Sized businesses (SMEs) in tourism. As an educator I also have an interest in education, higher education in particular, and am an executive member of the Association for Tourism in Higher Education. I have published in the area of tourism SMEs and entrepreneurship (specifically individual pathways to venture creation) and am now working together with a colleague from Leeds University, Dr Bradley Parrish, on a book about responsible tourism entrepreneurship.
