I am first a changemaker by developing my own personal character traits that I want to nuture (compassion, honesty, humility, determination, self respect)and bringing about the change necessary in my own life to compliment these positive attributes. In the broader sense I strive to be a change maker by not encouraging stereotypes, by treating others with respect no matter their current station in life or their level of education, wealth, etc. I also try to raise awareness of serious public health related issues that affect us all as humans but that may seem distant to those of us who are fortunate to lead a healthly life free from poverty, war, serious diseases, etc.
I grew up on the waterfront on an island in the Bahamas so no matter where I am I alwasy feel a connection to bodies of water. I also love snowfall and walking through the woods right after a heavy snowfall when the snow is all puffy and glistening on the ground and trees.
I want to see more compassion and devotion to persons suffering from diseases such as HIV/AIDS, cancer and poverty in general. No place on earth should exist where a mother has to feed her baby mud because they don't have anything to eat or where parents have to watch their children starve to death because they have no food or water. I don't think it means that we should feel guilty if we are fortunate to possess wealth, etc but I do believe that each person who is blessed with a decent home and relatively good life should give a little to help those living in extreme poverty. More importantly I think that in giving of our personal time to various causes even if it's just an hour a week, we are enriched by our acts of kindness and so I would like to see a change in the attitude of more people towards serving the less fortunate in their local communities as well as the extremely destitute in countries far away.
I am a Microbiologist and the proud founder of Bada Bain Press. The company was created to fulfil a life-long ambition of combining my love for science and writing. I am originally from the beautiful island of Andros in the Bahamas where I grew up with my parents, eight siblings, numerous pets and lots of books to read. I am the author of the Really, Really Big Book Series™. I chose to write these books because I believe that educating children about serious health-related issues will ensure that they can contribute to a supportive environment for their family and friends who may feel isolated and alone because they are affected by very serious diseases. I also hope that my books will inspire young minds to become future scientific leaders engaged in finding cures for some of the diseases they learn about in my books and through their interactions with persons in their own communities who are advocates or victims of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Cholera and Tuberculosis (TB), or who suffer from poverty and malnutrition.
