I am a member of a team of extraordinary women activists in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our organization is called Women Against Violence Against Women (WAVAW). At WAVAW we work to end all forms of violence against women by providing front-line resources, support, and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence and by promoting social and attitudinal change by engaging in community outreach.
I feel a deep connection to the WAVAW space. It is a safe place for women only, a place where survivors of sexual assault can get help and support, a place where we share ideas and goals of a better, safer society and work together to make those dreams a reality.
The change we want to see at WAVAW is a shift in society, a world free from violence and sexual assault, a world where our services are no longer needed because it is a world that is safe for women.
I am the Project Coordinator for the SafeVibe Campaign at Women Against Violence Against Women (WAVAW). Together with the WAVAW staff and all our partners, we are working to create a community committed to ending drug and alcohol facilitated sexual assault and keeping the Vancouver party scene safe. We developed this campaign to coincide with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, to spread the message about the risks of sexual assault and to get everyone involved in being part of the solution.
