I am a changemaker because of the work I do in implementing solutions that connect and engage different parts of the community. I work with teammates as well as coach younger students to take an initiative in helping the community and the environment.
I feel a connection with the environment around my town. I grew up with the ocean and forests, and have a particular attachment to those places.
Youth mobilization. With the power of more youth working on projects internationally, more new initiatives can be taken and then develop into something that can really impact the world.
I created a program that connected residents, recycling companies, and the town's legislature in order to form a system to process electronic waste. The project has donated over 300 computers to local students, established 5 international computer media centers in underprivileged areas, established a recycling receptacle at our town's transfer station, recycled over 300,000 pounds of electronic waste, and passed state and town laws banning the dumping of e-waste.
This project has won several international awards such as the Community Problem Solving Program's Beyonder Award, the VolvoAdventure Award, and the SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Environmental Excellence Award.
