Antonio García Domínguez, emprendedor social (fellow) de Ashoka (www.ashoka.org) ha creado en el año 2001 la Asociación de Hombres por la Igualdad de Género (AHIGE) en España.
Antonio entiende que el primer paso para la transformación hacia una sociedad más igualitaria tiene que ser el cambio individual de los hombres. Es así que trabaja en la promoción de modelos de hombres igualitarios contra la violencia de género que aceptan que existe una discriminación estructural de las mujeres, que entienden la responsabilidad de los hombres para promover un cambio de esta situación, y que ven los beneficios personales y sociales que les aporta vivir en una sociedad igualitaria.
Desde sus inicios la asociación, pionera en España, ha centrado su trabajo en tres pilares: la creación y el apoyo a grupos de hombres, el trabajo profesional de formación y sensibilización, y la promoción de un movimiento social de referencia para ofrecer a la sociedad modelos positivos de masculinidad. Antonio García Domínguez, Ashoka Fellow from Spain (www.ashoka.org) understands that the first step in the transformation to a more equitable society must be a change in individual men and their attitudes. In this way, he is creating the first movement of men in Spain working towards gender equality through their own internal transformation and assumption of responsibility in changing their reality.
Due to his experience and knowledge in the field, Antonio founded the organization AHIGE (http://www.ahige.org/), the only one of its kind in Spain, with the goal of bringing the equality movement against gender violence. Since its founding, the organization has centered its work on three pillars: creating and supporting men’s groups, providing equality training to increase awareness, and building a social movement led by positive male role models working on gender equality from the bottom up.
Antonio and AHIGE have two main objectives: first, to bring the role of men, in the effort towards gender equality, from the private space to a public sphere and, second, to be a network that offers new models of masculinity for men, and especially young men, who do not have positive role models for change.
