My name is Branko and together with my comrade Vince I am putting up a company in one of the most interesting and extra ordinary food products given by mother Earth. You may guess three times what that is (or just read on), but to give you a hint, I can tell you;
it is not ice cream..
but it is something you can make milk from (but it is not a cow either..)
it is; HEMP SEEDS (and no, that has nothing to do with drugs)!
Hemp seeds are a so called super food. The term super food is a little a marketing term, but that doesn’t make it less true. Hemp seeds are one of the healthiest things to eat, and we know for sure that it is possible to make an O-Mega healthy ice cream from it, because the seeds contain all the essential omega’s there are. For example – with all the respect for the salmon – but hemp seeds contains five times more omega 3 than salmon. So if you want to make a healthy ice cream, salmon would not be the best choice (and even though salmon ice cream can be delicious, I guess that it would not be the flavor Ben neither Jerry wants). Hempseeds in the contrary can be used in every recipe, and it is especially tasty in ice cream. If you are not convinced, than please try it yourself (just replace the milk you are using by milk made from hemp seeds, its easy!).
Vince and me have named the company Seeddharta. The story goes that Siddharta Gautama the Buddha ate only one hemp seed a day during his meditation period of six years. And if it is good enough for Buddha, it should be good enough for us! How true this story really is, we don’t dare to say, but the story was inspirational enough to give our company the name Seeddharta. Also other ancestors than Siddharta the Buddha have been using hemp for millenniums. In the last thousands of years, hemp has been used for sails and ropes (VOC and Colombus used it), for Canvas (Van Gogh and all the Dutch Masters painted on it), for paper (for bank paper, but also other valuable pieces of paper, like bibles and the American Declaration of Independence), for building material (the aqueducts of Rome are still standing to proof how durable hempcrete is), for plastic (Henry Ford made a car from hemp plastic), for bio fuel (Henry Fords car could run on hemp fuel) and for food (one of the most healthiest foods there are). It is the most wonderful plant mother Earth gave us, and the Plant, the Planet and the People on the planet deserve the come back of the hemp plant. If only the world would know that the industrial version of hemp has nothing to do with drugs (it doesn’t contain THC and it won’t get you high), but is usable for everything, than the world would soon be a greener place.
We want to prove that hemp seeds can be used in every recipe, just like hemp can be used in every product. This would be a small step for Ben & Jerry’s, but an enormous leap for mankind.. if there only would be a Ben & Jerry’s hemp ice cream!
Seeddharta wants to change the world one seed at a time in cooperation with all persons and businesses who can contribute to our mission to get the hemp plant out of the shadow and put it back into the spotlight. We hold in our hands the solution to a greener world. We want to sow this seed, grow goodness, reap awareness of the lost wisdom of hemp, and weed out all the misunderstandings around it. If Ben & Jerry's will decide to make an ice cream based on hemp milk, I think we succeed with our mission.. that would be the greatest thing that could happen in our biografy of the future!
