John Mighton is a mathematician, author, playwright and the founder of Junior
Undiscovered Mathematical Prodigies (JUMP) Maths – a non-profit organisation based in
Canada which offers a unique way of teaching mathematics to children who have previously
struggled when taught using conventional methods. John developed ‘guided discovery’ - a
progressive system of teaching maths that breaks down concepts into very basic steps that
students can easily follow. Since its inception it has grown rapidly and JUMP teaching and
student materials are now used in classrooms serving 65,000 children from grades one
through eight in Canada and the USA and by over 20,000 children at home.
