Kenya Mitchell, an award winning author and New Orleans native, believes the world is our most profound teacher. Moreover, she feels the most effective educational experiences, whether they be in or out of the classroom, are characterized by a synergistic sharing of self, exploration, respect and inspiration. Kenya devised these theories as she traveled through Europe, Brazil, Mali, West Africa, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Northern California. Since graduating from City College of New York, Kenya has learned how to combine theory and practice through concurrent studies at UC Davis' and Harvard's School of Education. Kenya pleased with having the opportunity to combine her world view with her knowledge in adolescent literacy pedagogy as the Curriculum Developer for World Teach and EmpowerED.
In addition to her academic work, Kenya Mitchell has published poetry, essays, short stories and poetry reviews for a number of publications including New York Magazine, The Adirondack Review, Stanford University'’s Black Arts Quarterly, and Tribes Magazine.
