I am the founder and co-ordinator of the GM-free Ireland Network (www.gmfreeireland.org), a not-for-profit multi-stakeholder association of over 130 businesses, NGOs, farming organisations and professional organisations campaigning to declare the island of Ireland as a GMO-free biosafety reserve for Europe. Launched in 2004, we recently won a major victory by getting the Irish Government (which used to play a leading role to promote GM food and farming in the EU) to officially agree to ban all GM crops and introduce a voluntary label for animal produce from livestock fed a certified Non-GMO diet.
Geneva where I grew up in Switzerland. The Wicklow Mountains where I now live in Ireland. The Chianti hills of Tuscany, Italy, where I plan to set up an international centre of learning, culture and communication for a sustainable future.
I want children and students to learn the difference between knowledge and belief. I want to use the mass media to create contexts of information or "situations' that focus Humankind's attention on the pattern that connects the global crisis to our own way of seeing it. I am developing series of media products (including GIS software, TV series and cinema) that promote the concept of sustainability as a global goal. I am planning a impressionistic musical feature film conceived as a collective self-portrait of Humankind and the biosphere.
I consider myself an information artist. I founded Global Vision Corporation, an NGO accredited to the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development, and Global Vision Consulting Ltd (www.global-vision.org). Working with a world-class trans-disciplinary group of leading thinkers and doers, I completed the development phase for a series of media products to promote the concept of sustainability as a global goal, including the world's first global curriculum package targeted to the global teenager. I interrupted this work in 2004 to launch the GM-free Ireland Network. We have reversed Ireland's former as a leading promoter of GM food and farming and secured a new government policy to ban all GM crops (including field trials) and to introduce a GM-free label that will provide our farmers and food producers with a unique selling point: the most credible safe GM-free food brand in Europe.
