Fantastic exposition.
This is how to spread compassion, this is why this (our, your) compassion group exists - listening to this should be mandatory for all site visitors - I'm half-serious - this is THAT good and THAT relevant to compassion EDUCATION.
It is ALSO a Special needs community rally cry.
Especially in light of Sandy Hook, New Town.
Ive taught in every school all grades in most of western SD (think Mt Rushmore). RC SD which is where I came across miracle dog Bug as I exited a middle school police station office after having just presented him with my ideas on having dog and cat mascots in the school – and right there is a little blue-haired former teacher holding two beautifully bumbly young golden retriever pups – Ive spent a lot of time going and working in schools and don’t recall ANY pooch peddlers – what are the odds? Miracle? Miracle is project one – every school, that’s the goal. – If we could go to the moon in six months then we can put a dog and a cat and bird in each school .
The kids in the hills are “rough” around the edges some of them and they have banded together (Hill City, Custer, SD ) into the most incredible self-healing “group” centered around something they keep secret from nasty old adults and call the “Poets Table” It is well, well, hidden and a big deal to be told about. It is well kept and they stash extra money around for others in need later, and write in notebooks using aliases, like "pochahontas” and “slayer” and the notebooks can cover their entire childhoods, five year and older entries… wood table, chairs, small shelves… They write of horrible pains, deep despairs, and have a place to hide where all know to come to heal themselves (despite you, us). Incredible, yes? And beautifully moving! More poets tables all over the country would be nice, don’t you agree? A great opportunity for almost any company to sponsor, and then theres…
No safe place to tell a story… but could be… in R.C. S.D. is a “Storybook Island” which serves as a mega-park for the region… free and full of huge plastic story figures – IMAGINE a pumpkin or other-such safe semi-enclosure where a child can come occasionally to begin building a video BIOGRAPHY of his or her life… and which can serve the community as well in helping find those in dire need…
As Im thinking this through... I know what you are looking for and we have the same goals - Nearby Deerfield Beach HS I went to as a kid and which now looks like and feels like a PRISON... I went to see it and was lead to a quasi-prison-sheriff office without any door markings and a large young almost-man hulked over, handcuffed, plus two adults (and me). My reason for being there originally was to inquire if anyone was aware of what a WWII "pillbox was - and that the main up/down stairwells were facing-in WWII pillboxes? And why was it that they were painted in the same grey-pastels as supposedly are used in our Florida prisons? I had just learned from a teacher whom Id asked, in a nutshell whether she thought it looked creepy - she said at first yes but after a while she didnt notice, and that she thought the paint color scheme was due to the counties being able to purchase the same paint for BOTH its prisons and schools - AAAAARGGGH?? I want to line the place with Art... Oh... and dont get me started on the art teacher there bragging about how much worse other places are and for her kids to just quit whining! YES the kids DO need to be taught EMPATHY, but THEY are NOT the MAIN PROBLEM - they will LEARN IT WHETHER OR NOT we help them - DESPITE OUR INSANITY - It helps to see and be exposed to Empathy - and since most persons (over fifty percent now I believe in the most severely affected communities) are certifiable... well... a bit nuts - and since this affects even how problems are phrased before they are tackled. My dog BUG is in fact a true all out miracle, and a cornerstone on attacking the problems of both adults and children in light of ubiquitous cultural pathological dysmorphism. RC is where the first young man walked into a classroom with a shotgun. Recently here in Deerfield Beach Florida you may have heard about one of our burnings or stompings – the young boy burned by other boys, the girl almost stomped to death by another student, the two with acid poured onto them…
I tried to donate art to the prison-HS and after multiple calls am going to have to take things into my own hands – and reach out to you for help, please.
There is a way to make the problem and its extent visible… its called ANONYMOUS POLLING and it means you can ask a school how many have been abused – each flips a coin and keeps the results of the flip secret. If heads the child answers yes whatever the question. If tails, the child answers with the truth. Adults too – DO THIS IN YOUR OFFICE BUILDING or COMPANY NOW and you will see why it is that my main concern is NOT the children – they listen to reason, then can see, it is the adults that are blind and dangerously ignorant of their power. Poll yourselves – and prepare for "Shock and Awe" when you see how many have come from difficult childhoods or have a best friend or direct relation in distress... NOW is the time to make our schools into PUNISHMENT-FREE SANCTUARIES FOR LEARNING-ONLY!
Someday each school will house the communities historical and artistic heritage when possible- each school made into a show-case museum showing a communities pride in both itself and in its children.
CHILDREN ARE THE EYES AND EARS OF MOTHER EARTH, USE THEM FOR THIS PURPOSE - SEND THEM OUT INTO THE FIELDS FORESTS AND DESERTS OF THEIR BACK YARDS AND MAKE THAT TERRITORY THEIRS AND THEN GIVE THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO OBSERVE AND MANAGE THAT AREA... TRACK THE CARBON CREDITS - STOP CLIPPING GRASS... Plant FRUIT AND NUT TREES - create ANIMAL ECOSYSTEMS...
DID you know the TAINO were the first native american Columbus met and that they were the first to be documented to have a DEMOCRATIC FORM OF GOVERNMENT (representation by population, not might). Florida has ancient bog bodies and I grew up there and never knew and I am so bothered by that... The Taino are NOT extinct... they are now the people inhabiting the island state - Puerto Rico... History... who knew! We should! They should! Floridians should!
