An American born and twice trained sociologist of Jewish, Austrian and Galizean descent, I have enjoyed teaching as an adjunct and thus mostly on the periphery of academia as well as working as a research consultant on numerous projects (ranging from a project director (for a report on trends) and researcher at Girls Scouts, a project director on a study of the long-term effects of severe trauma, a study of the application of humanistic education in law, how the media deals with women and cancer.... for more that 35 years. My dissertation dealt with Max Weber's latent understanding of the origins of chinese thought, culture and civilization and involved the application of the methods of versthehen to understanding Weber's own work in his terms. That research approach has enabled me to write the present book recalling sociology, rethinking Social science from the same standpoint of understanding science (its scope, framework and the paradigm shift of which is required from the sciences to move foreword and for sociology to be recognized as a science). I am married to Aaron Fuchs (20 years) and have a daughter Sabrina in college. I enjoy traveling, collecting antiques, music (opera especially La Traviata and Fledermaus), swimming, and dansing (Salsa, Rumba and dansing to the music of Motown) and speaking French and Italian.
