Roy Steiner is a Deputy Director in the Global Development Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is directly involved with the Agricultural Development Portfolio whose goal is to address hunger and poverty in the developing world. Before joining the Foundation Roy lived for 8 years in Zimbabwe where he founded and ran Cyberplex Holdings, a group of companies located in 3 Southern African countries, involved with web software development, as well as evaluation and knowledge management consulting. Previously Roy helped in the founding Africa Online, currently the most widespread Internet Company in Africa. Roy studied at MIT, Harvard and Cornell and received his PhD in Agriculture and Biological Engineering. Earlier in his career he was employed at the Rockefeller Foundation involved with a sustainable agriculture initiative and then joined McKinsey & Co as a management consultant.
