I am a dreamer, a listener and a do-er. I love working with passionate, creative, curious people who are not afraid to fail. I believe in possibility, hope and change. I co-founded KnowledgeBeat, an organization advancing underserved areas of education in rural Africa with an initial focus on Zambia. KnowledgeBeat's four core programs include: KnowledgeCamps, KnowledgeCenters and Scholarships.
Zambia holds a special place in my heart. During my time in Zambia, I was honored to work alongside the most inspiring people. People who are committed to implementing sustainable solutions in their communities and their country. People who, amidst great challenges, find hope in every day.
I believe that by strengthening global education we strengthen ourselves and nourish our future. In many countries, children are betrayed by a broken education system. I am passionate about improving education in the developing world so that younger generations can grow up to become Changemakers. A huge part of this process involves teaching children empathy, leadership and teamwork and allowing them to explore their creativity and expand their imaginations.
After spending a year in Zambia launching KnowledgeBeat, I returned to Washington DC and started working with Ashoka's Changemakers. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this innovative group of thinkers who spend each day inspiring, collaborating and changing our world for the better...
Sarah lived in Zambia from June 2008 to June 2009, supporting KnowledgeBeat’s launch and program development. As Country Coordinator, she continues to work closely with KnowledgeBeat's Zambian team. She received her Bachelor of Science in Communications with a concentration in Psychology from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, Sarah helped launch the first independent living solution for Center for Independent Futures, a non-profit helping adults with disabilities live independent lives. Upon graduation, Sarah led marketing and fundraising initiatives at Massachusetts-based Eagle Hill School, where she also coached boys’ basketball. Prior to her year in Zambia, Sarah worked as a Client Executive at Voce Communications, a communications consultancy that delivers influencer-marketing programs for clients in the high-tech sector.
