I am fortunate to have been born in a country such as Canada and having parents originating from developing countries. This has provided a balance in my life, fostering a desire to help others and to appreciate varying ways of life.
It has made me an active member of my local and global community through volunteering, particularly in matters involving empowering women. This passion has fueled a career change from the corporate to the non-profit sector, and I hope to devote my working years to improving the lives of marginalized women.
The villages surrounding the city of Sintang in West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) have enriched my life with their rich cultural heritage and ability to withstand the impact of modernity. They have made a lasting impression on my life, my views and my way of thinking. I remain connected to its surrounding environment and its warm people.
I believe that women are at the very foundation of successful, sustainable development initiatives. With proper education, nutrition, and access to income generation these women will be better equipped to foster a brighter and healthier future generation.
Improved access to these essential needs is a change I passionately want to happen.
