Information is power. If we know what's going on in our neighborhoods, we can make better decisions, or even better, take part in something that matters. If we don't know the city is going to raise our taxes, we can't show up at the meeting to protest. On a larger level, if we don't know that the news is coming from fewer and fewer people who would have attended the meetings to find out about tax hikes, higher bus passes, closing off public lands for a new golf course, etc. we have no chance to ACT. And that is why news and the people who produce news are important in our goal making a better, smarter, more reflective and compassionate world.
