Third Driver uses media to decrease drunk driving. It's currently limited to a small section of the world, Miami, FL, but hopefully the combination of incentives and unique services it can help make the streets a safer place for everyone by decreasing the threat of drunk drivers.
Third Driver doesn't have a global reach, since there's a lot of places where it wouldn't work. But the concept can be applied to other cities or regions in other industries: if we use technology and social media to reengineer common, popular services in a positive, more efficient way, hopefully we can affect a long-term positive change. Third Driver addresses drunk driving by encouraging people to have greater personal responsibility; there remains many more social and cultural problems that could benefit from a radical reengineering, but overall, I believe that if people in general took their personal responsibility and actions more seriously and were more cognizant of them on a daily basis, mankind would benefit.
Third Driver is a great resource for reengineering the few aware mentalities to be better examples, & for encouraging people to do the same, in commnuity supported circles. For instance, the party place can become a sleep-over for life; let them live or die...? Isn't a free-will choice/WORLD?
It's sad, but thanks for being responsible for so many of us, choosing not to take it for ourselves but rather granted with the threat of preparing to kill another driver/pedestrian,

PS: Unfortunately, Planet Earth is not a choice for US All to protect it, daily, with our constitutional inheritance. Would i actually call myself an American (USian - since Canada & Mezico are Americans too) & forget i an Inspiring the WORLD to follow in those foot, steps, to...where, what, why, when & for how long will we have this option...?
Third Driver doesn't just play to the minority of people who are already aware of their impact and make responsible decisions -- by using social media networks like facebook and MySpace, Third Driver can dissuade people who would otherwise risk making a bad choice from doing so; by providing tailored incentives to greater crowds of people, Third Driver can raise awareness.
Third Driver itself can only operate inside the United States of America, but it's not to say that the motivation and general principle can't be applied elsewhere. That said, Third Driver isn't trying to dictate outright what choice is right and which one is wrong: it's about giving people the option to realize this for themselves, and then make the right choice. It's about giving them a better alternative, making the responsible thing to do the easy thing to do.
Doing what's best for oneself and one's community is a practice that can be applied in any region of the globe, and bridging the gap between selfishness and selflessness entails showing that these, like personal responsibility and liberty, are also not mutually exclusive.
