The Trust Web
The nextgen Web is becoming our digital society. Yet the term Web 3.0 from Tim O’Reilly, media titan, excludes the human element of trust to make the Web operative. I want to use media to change the Web 3.0 name to The Trusted Web. (see attachment for more details)

The Trust Web
What is your idea? What makes it innovative? Why is it important?
The nextgen Web is becoming our digital society. Yet the term Web 3.0 from Tim O’Reilly, media titan, excludes the human element of trust to make the Web operative. I want to use media to change the Web 3.0 name to The Trusted Web. (see attachment for more details)
Will you launch your idea as a business or non-profit?
Business
Country your work focuses on
What will be the impact of your idea?
Ultimately, the vision is that Judy Consumer will have technologies to pull “trust credentials” into any online exchange, e.g. communications, community or commerce, as easily and routinely as she uses passwords today.
I believe that if we can change the Web 3.0 label to the concept of The Trust Web we can begin to see important technological changes begin to take root such as:
• A coordinated effort to create the “trust layer" of the Internet
• Privacy can evolve to mean identity verification and management
• Semantic technologies can introduce trust credentials
• Online visitor can verify content so that endorsement brands, e.g a Visa logo can be verified and unspoofable
• Realtime search can be centered on a social network architecture where your trusted contacts reside.
Who will help you develop your idea? Why are you the one to make this happen?
I have already secured corporate and academic support including:
• Comodo, a Certification Authority (CA) and security company, has agreed to make their content verification technology free to all CAs to enable new ways for consumers to verify online content, e.g. logos.
• Dr. Kieron O’Hara has expressed interest in this initiative, (http://webscience.org/person/45.html.) He wrote an excellent white paper; “Trust on the Web: Some Web Science Research Challenges”, (9/08). http://www.uoc.edu/uocpapers/7/dt/eng/ohara_hall.pdf .
Another ally is the W3C with an organization structure to support this effort.
Here’s “why me”.
• My work experience at AT&T, Bell Labs, Lucent, Computer Associates, Comodo and Paltalk gives me dept on the technology and human issues
• I learned how to create efficient operational programs to drive the key issues to key stakeholder segments.
• I write regularly for AdAge, (http://adage.com/digitalnext/index?sid=Judy Shapiro) which is a rare, valuable platform from which to launch this campaign.
How much will it cost to launch your idea? (This can be an estimate)
This effort has some critical milestones focused on message dispersion through content campaigns and would entail:
1. Cost of one academic study on the cost a lack of trust has on the development of Internet. ($5k)
2. Cost of one content campaign to disperse results of research (approximately $5K)
3. Host a conference with technology stakeholders, security companies, certification authorities and browsers to assess how to organize Trust Layer. This conference would be led by both academicians and security technologist. Cost of conference: $15K.
(As an aside, I already purchased the domain TheTrustWeb.com)
Finally, once launched, the goal would be to make this initiative self sustaining through:
• Enterprise fees for consulting on how to leverage trust online
• Providing consumer research to the industry
• Retain a % of all technology licenses sold as a result of this initiative, e.g Enterprise would pay to have their online content verifiable
