Provide one sentence describing your impact/intended impact

For the women of Ghana to see the importance of sports as a tool for better health and livelihoods.

What does impact/success look like? Please list any tangible measures of the impact of your innovation

The use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the E Commerce /Telecentres hence bridging the IT divide in Ghana by 2015 to about 50 %.
Improve the health and livelihoods of the women and using Sports as a tool to achieve this.
Making more women part of the Formal Business sector than the informal where most women in Ghana are today.

Is there a chance that your project could change policy (within an institution or government)?

The education policy, trade policy and ICT Policy in Ghana today do not support women. Hence the project would provide more support for women in Ghana hence making institutions and the government to review the negative policies affecting women in this area.

Aside from financial sustainability, how do you plan to grow the initiative or expand your intended impact?

We need to promote the initiative as a business model under the social entreprise approach so that through sports the women can access better health facilities, improve their livelihoods, generate income and other social and economic benefits.

How is your initiative financed (or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)?

We are proposing a small business financial model that would enable the women to get loans and grants to set up the CHESS E Commerce centres and would pay back with a small percentage interest. We shall therefore be working with the local banks in Ghana through the Ghana Investment Finance Trust (GIFT) Fund.

Financing source

Annual budget

Our Annual Budget for 2008 was 10,000 USD.

Annual revenue generated

We have not started any income generation yet.

Number of staff (full-time, part-time, volunteers)

Full Time: 3
Part time: 2
Volunteers: 3

What are the main barriers to financing your initiative, and how do you plan to address these barriers?

The main barrier is to get the initial finance to kick-start the projects. This is one of our main barriers and why we are applying for the program.

What are the major challenges with regards to partnerships?

At the moment we are look to set up constructive and sustainable partnership since the concept is new in Ghana it is very difficult to set up such partnerships but with the success of the project we hope we shall over come this.

What stage is your project?

Ongoing project .

What was the motivation or defining moment that led to create this innovation? Tell us the story.

I have had over 17 years experience working in the Water, Health , Environmental Education and Management sector. But the social entreprise models is one think I had always thought would make a great difference to promote trade not aid in Ghana and across Africa.

Please tell us about the social innovator behind this initiative

While addressing social issues other issues such as health, finance, income generation and others can also be addressed to improve women's livelihoods and that of their families.
