Thank you for your application and welcome to the community!
I appreciate the work you are doing in teaching the fundamentals in order to insure your young athletes stay healthy and have long athletic careers.
I would like to hear more about the important work you are doing in building social skills thru the 3 B's. As a coach this is equal to the sports skills you are teaching but takes very little space in your application. I look forward to hearing more!
Thanks again for sharing your story and for all you do! Good luck in the competition!
Building, Believing and Becoming comes from our mission statement at church. At church we use the 4 B's, Building Believing, Becoming and Belonging. You see, I have been working on a mission statement, philosophy, and methods on how I train young athletes for some time now. Every Sunday we repeat our mission statement and on a particular Sunday ideas begin to run thru my head and looking back in how I coach I was already practicing the three B's.
The most important person in a young athlete's development is usually the first two to three coaches. In today's society everything is about winning and most coaches look to recruit or play athletes that are already good. So they (coaches) look to build their win column instead of the athlete; which is and should be there top priority. We as an society have become competitive to earlier at a price, and that price is the result of athletes not being able to reach there full potential.
We as coaches must Build up are athletes. It is our job to put them in situations that they are able to succeed on and off the field. We as coaches must instill confidence in our athletes that follows them off the field into the classroom, in society, hanging with friends, and any type of hostile environment (being embarrassed, made fun, standing up for someone or something) they come across. It is kind of like that NCAA commericial about students athletes: "There are over 360,000 NCAA student-athletes and just about all of us will be going pro in something other than sports." Those athletes that graduate and pursue a career other than professional sports developed certain traits, thru the sport and the training they did to help them succeed in society. Building your self mentally and psychically leads to you Believing that you can go and reach way beyond your dreams. Once you Believe it, you are well on your way to Becoming what you are intended to be. "Competence breeds Confidence". I can not tell how many athletes I have trained in a group setting of about 8 kids and for the first month or two they never said a word; but about month 3 or 4 I can not get them to shut up. Not only have they come out of their shell but they have made friends with other athletes in the group that possibly goes to there school rival. So sports performance is one coaching aspect that I do. I am able to motivate my athletes to Build themselves, to Believe in themselves which allows them to Become a pro at what ever they choose.
