To introduce cricket among the blind women in Nepal disregarding their socio-economic status, caste, age, creed and religion.
How many people does your innovation serve or plan to serve? Exactly who will benefit?
From 2006 to till this date,taking the help of local clubs I have almost trained 60 women round the country but only around fifty women play cricket presently. Over the next year I am planning to train more 20-30 women of Eastern development region. Though,I am trying to teach women play disregarding their age caste creed and religion but recently women[ age range 10–30 from blind school ,colleges and living nearby cities have been targeted.

Nepal is geo- politically and socially awkward country and the status of woman is very pathetic. After the woman gets blind they are kept in house preventing them from social exposure. To find out these woman and bringing them to the cricket ground seems to be impossible with outh the help of partners like cricket club of the blind in Pokhara , Rupendehi and Chitwan. Cricket Association of the blind , Nepal has eight clubs around the country but only these three clubs have women players roughly in fifty numbers. These clubs help in exploring the hidden women of their regions , bringing girls to the ground, practice with the boys and arrange tournaments for them. Beside this, these clubs also seek uniform , scholarship to the needy girls.

How do you implement your innovation and apply it to the challenge/problem you are addressing?
It is ironic to say that the status of blind women in Nepal is very pathetic and critical. Once the female blind child is born in the family she is taken as a curse and the burden in the family.Most of the blind girls are kept locked in a room and only lucky few get a chance to go school.convincing their parents and teachers are another big challenges. To implement the plan by overcoming this problems,I am doing regular counseling to parents and the teachers. Provisions of counseling to the parents and girls along with some benefits will help to implement my plan. Monitoring the players activities, and arrangements of tournaments etc. will further more facilitate in the implementation.

Even today the blind girls are taken as the burden in the family. Providing chances to go school remains very low. In laymen’s perspective Blindness means blank and blinds lives by begging in the street . With the introduction of this cricket a slight change in the laymen's perspectives have been noticed. It has been successful in establishing girls not only as a things of charity but a things of weight . This cricket has played a great role in developing sense of responsibilities , raise will power and provide national and international exposure. Girls playing cricket are found to be more active ,good at study, have the quality to share the problems with others.The most positive points of this cricket is all the parents who ever had heard ,read or seen blind girls playing cricket on the media now have started to admit them in the school .It could be said that this game is successful in clarifying that blindness is not the divine punishment but the divine gift
Is there a chance that your project could change policy (within an institution or government)?
I believe only if the citizens are aware then only government would be aware. Till to this date there is no any other sports which includes woman with blindness. The cricket for the blind women, Nepal is the first country to initiate cricket in Asia and first country in the world to have a complete blind women cricket team. These girls have played in First regional and National tournaments .There play have been filmed by various national and international T.V . If all these information can be circulated to government then there may be high chances of Government policies to be changed. They may bring various project to involve girls inn sports and they may also search other sporting events where Blind and other disabled woman can be engaged. If continuity could be given to this innovation then Government may change their policies over the next few years. Government may enforce all the blind school and colleges to involve girls in the sporting activities.
Aside from financial sustainability, how do you plan to grow the initiative or expand your intended impact?
Presently I am Using current women players as a publicity tools and to some extent this has helped me in collecting funds, attracting new women to join the cricket group and changing the common men’s perspectives to view the blind woman . Necessary funds is being collected from the local levels, by sailing lottery tickets, provision of supporting members making regular contributions on small amounts and occasional charity shows.

How is your initiative financed (or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)?
In a modern day world its only the money which can make the dream come true. In a poor country like Nepal collecting funds is the greatest headache. Current procedures applied to gather funds like sailing lottery tickets , donation from supporting members,well wishers, charity shows and game demonstrated in various ceremony seem to have no longer effect if regular grand is not received from Government level , corporate houses or from the international donor agencies. These bodies will be approached to support. Considering some of the girls playing cricket in an incentive to get some money, scholarship for the study necessity of the regular funds cant be denied.

What are the main barriers to financing your initiative, and how do you plan to address these barriers?
In a country where main stream cricket is in a developing stage getting sufficient funds for the disabled sports is almost impossible. Limited number of big corporate houses, social awareness and unclear Government policies are also creating problems in getting support. In most of the places where I have approached for the funding I have been rejected by showing their constitutional limitation.
What are the major challenges with regards to partnerships?
The bad trend to look everything from the key person or the central level is still there in Nepal. Partners rather than managing their own resources demand every thing from me. They do their duty only if they are provided with all their necessities. Frequently arising disputes, bad management of the funds provided, negligence and failing to lure the more women are the major challenges with the partners.

What was the motivation or defining moment that led to create this innovation? Tell us the story.
I am Capt. Pawan Ghimire, Chairman of Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal and passion of cricket is injected into me by Pakistani who were here in 2006 to teach cricket. I lost my both vision completely in 2003 in a mine blasted by the then terrorist Maoist. After spending traumatic one and half year in a room I was sent to take computer course in a Blind Association. As a Chairman and as a coach in the mid may of 2007, I was in Pokhara to promote this game. Initially the training was only designated for the blind boys. On the fifth day of the training, there was a practice match between the trainees. I was staying outside the boundary near the women’s group. A boy got bowled out in a very easy ball. Suddenly, a women rose up from the group and started to shout to that boy and she yelled “if I had got a chance to bat I would have scored four in that easy ball. In the mean time other girls in a group started to regret for not providing them a chance to play. When I heard that I felt very disheartened for being so bias to girls. On the same spot I promised to teach cricket to the girls and not to disregard anyone because of their sex. From the very next day I started to train cricket to the women . I was very much excited to see thirty five Interested women. Including Chitwan ,Pokhara and Rupendehi I have trained more than sixty blind women. Most of these girls have played in regional , national and inter club tournaments along with the boys.
Please tell us about the social innovator behind this initiative
All my partners and crew members are the social innovators behind the innovation cause me being a totally blind man. The mission would have remained incomplete if these people hadn't helped me. Of course, the idea was mine but they were the one to inspire me to take cricket to women. They were always with me in my better and bitter days. They walked a long way to seek the eligible blind woman. These people have proven as my eyes and are still working actively to expand the project.
