California Poets in the Schools encourages youth with poetry writing tools. Students learn to express diverse values, emotions, ideas, and dreams for the future.
Problem
California Poets in the Schools needs new funding solutions in order to reach more than 30,000 students throughout the state, and to leverage use of website and other tech to share the imaginative poetry writing curriculum with educators, communities and students globally. When students learn to communicate complex emotions and ideas through creative writing, classroom and community tolerance increases.
Solution
2014 marks the 50 year anniversary of our organization. If CPITS can find new sources of funding, programs will be sustained and spread for the next 50 years! We anticipate that the proven curriculum can also be a model for other communities, globally, to build literacy and tolerance through the creative poetry writing process. We need to update database systems, engage with more donors, build collaborations with educators, business and public agencies to bring more literary arts/creative writing to more students statewide.
