Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

*For countries suffering from lack of local engineers compared to their market size, employment need/cost are HIGH. *In crisis areas there are lots of opportunities in construction sector but unsafe situation deliver employment complexity *Cultural stigma in Arab region provide barriers to women preventing them from working outside which led to pause their qualifications, many go through their lives without considering that balance may exist.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Many engineering tasks don't require the presence at office, we aim to take advantage of this feature and built a customized Remote Platform* -a number of adopted softwares that is customized to serve engineering purposes-, which will reduce employment need & cost and solve part of employment complexity in crisis area. Also, this technique will offer the opportunity for hundreds of Arab Female Engineers to use their qualifications by working from home remotely. I'm a female mechanical engineer & a mother for 3-children, for the past 12 years I have lived in Saudi Arabia & worked as a freelance engineer virtually, where I have built a very good base of customers there, and reached a high level of Work-Life Balance. "If one can do it then anyone can", I aim through handasiyat to copy my own experience on other Arab Female Engineers & bring them back to the market using the Technology. Survey shows that the market is losing qualified female engineers due to social obligations at certain period of their lives, through handasiyat we aim to fill this Work Gap in Females lives by working virtually since these social obligations are preventing them from working outside homes but not inside.

When we first started we had a-small group of talented female engineers, who for the various aforementioned reasons did not have time for a-full-time office based job. Since the establishment we've executed 3 projects giving an-employment opportunity for 8 female engineers. This opportunity allowed them to make use of a-lot of their spare time in a-way in which they could also realize their independence. Moreover, because Handasiyat is considered as a community for Arab Female Engineers, we have been contacted by Halliburton Company for Oil & Gas -USA- and made an agreement with them to be there only resource for Arab Female Engineers for their open positions in the MENA Region. Handasiyat's idea grabbed the attention regionally and globally, Engineer Nermin Sa'd - the founder & the CEO- was nominated & honored on many major events for her idea, latest is being a finalist in GIST

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

We are a team of experienced engineer who worked for the past 12 years in Saudi Arabia, where we have built bridges of trust and had a good client base which we consider as our starting point to move on. We are using our services fees to grow up our new business, so we'll be able to build our own customized platform and be able to hire & train more female engineers. We are seeking for fund to speed up our steps and to move forward.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Handasiyat is the only business that provides engineering services with 100% Highly Qualified Female Staff The Market is not crowded yet, we have few direct competitors who lack the technology -Customized Platform- in their business model and has no access to Saudi Arabia as we have. We have also an indirect competitor in the form of offline offices who turned to be our customers at the end, since they're subjected to the high employment need & cost due to the lack of local engineers. Other competition comes in the form of foreign freelancers who lack the technology & the Team-Work.

Founding Story

I've worked as freelance Female engineer in Saudi Arabia for the past 12 years, since I was not allowed to work outside due to cultural stigmas in the country. I have built a very good base of clients and participated in many projects there virtually. When I come back to Jordan I wanted to keep working with my old clients so I've built a simple platform to interact with them virtually as before. I needed help so I've put a 7-words advertisement in the news paper:"Female Engineer required to work from home", within 7-days I got 700 CVs, this huge number of CVs within this period of time was a record and the spark that let me think of copying my own experience of working as a freelancer virtually on other female engineers who can't work out.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date?

Handasiyat was established in Jun./2012. When we started we had small group of talented female engineers, who for various reasons didn't have time for full-time office based job. Since the establishment we've executed 3 projects giving employment opportunity for 8 female engineers. allowed them to make use of a-lot of their spare time in a-way in which they could realize their independence.
Handasiyat is considered as a hub for Arab Female Engineers, we have been contacted by Halliburton Company to be their resource for Arab Female Engineers for their open positions in the Region. We have given work opportunity for more than 15 Female Engineer.
I won in many honorable events for being an inspirational model, last but not least being mentioned by US Secretary John Kerry in his speech at GES in Malaysia

Barriers: What barriers might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

** Funding is the major Barrier that we face at this stage. Solution is:
1. Reducing our core team payrolls
2. Expanding our scope of services
3. Submitting for many fund raising competitions to get the fund and the promotion/marketing for our business which is costly.
** People thoughts towards Females capabilities in the Arab World, since we are following a very restrict employment policy to hire Female Engineers -exclusively-, Solution is:
1. Take care of having only qualified & experienced ones
2. Follow high level of quality assurance checklist
3. High commitment Level

The construction market in the Arab region is among the worlds' most attractive due to its size, totaling $4.3 trillion.
We have plans to expand Regionally & Service - wise as follows:
To the moment we are focusing on offering Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) Engineering Services for companies operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia -our main market-. Our future plans are focused in extending geographically to penetrate the Libyan & Syrian markets
In terms of extending our offered services, Technical Translation is the major field of extension, Civil & Architecture engineering fields is another expansion Service Wise.
Extending more means offering more job opportunities for more female engineers to use their qualifications.

I have worked for more than 12 years in Saudi Arabia as a Freelance Engineer, because I was not allowed to work outside due to the country's obligations. Last Year, When I came back to Jordan I needed help in one project so I put an advertisement in the newspaper with exactly 7-words: "Female Engineer required to work from home", and I was expecting 2-3 applications, But these 7-words brought me within 7-days about 700 CVs, which was a Huge Shock to me. I started to call some of these Female Engineers and I found that they want to have the chance to use their qualifications from home since they have many social rules that prevent them from working outside, they seek Work-Life Balance Approach... and this was the SPARK!

Partnerships: Tell us about your partnerships.

While we are essentially an-online service, we believe that at certain times there must be face to face contact with the client in order to build trust and establish relationships. For that, we have already established business partnership with a-front line office in Saudi Arabia to execute initial client contacts, until we open our own offline office there. A-strategic partner is Mrs. Aziza Al-Mugheiri who will be our public relation agent.
