Ashoka Changemakers Team Job Descriptions

 

Ashoka is the largest network of social entrepreneurs worldwide, with nearly 3,000 Ashoka Fellows in 70 countries putting their system changing ideas into practice on a global scale. Changemakers is Ashoka’s online platform for social innovators to accelerate their impact, with a record of hosting over 80 challenges and sourcing more than 20,000 changemaking projects with partners such as the LEGO Foundation, Nike, eBay, Google, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

All applicants must be flexible, self-directed, and possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit. We appreciate interns who have excellent writing skills, good time management, are on task, outgoing and willing to learn new material. Most importantly, we want interns to support Changemakers’ vision, and be able to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their work while they are with Ashoka.

Our goal is to ensure every intern has an excellent professional development experience and we are able to support requirements by your local school to ensure you can receive course credit or scholarships (please ask your school's career center for more information). We regret that we can only offer unpaid internships at this time . Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but please keep the following recommended timelines in mind. Internships are 8-10 weeks in duration but exact dates of internships are flexible:

  • Fall: apply May 1 - June 30; work starts approx. late-August to mid-December 
  • Spring: apply September 1 - October 30; work starts approx. mid-January to late May
  • Summer: apply January 5 - March 15; work starts approx. early-June - August

1. Changemakers Interns

Position Summary

Changemakers is looking for interns who can play a myriad of roles. If you don’t feel like positions 2 through 7 are applicable to you, but you are still passionate about contributing, there are 3 more positions we are looking to fill! As a Changemakers Intern, you will be able to work with different teams and gain diverse experiences. Potential internships in the following fields: Media, Community-Building, Operations, Project Management, Partnerships, Web Development, Research, and Finance, among others.

Qualifications:

    • Flexible and self-directed

    • Ability to work in an unstructured environment; willingness to adapt to changing objectives
    • Excellent writing skills

2. Data Visualization Intern

Position Summary

As a Data Visualization Intern, you will have the opportunity to explore the Changemakers’ abundant data stream about inspiring social change projects around the world. It will be your responsibility to dive into the data sets, findings trends and patterns both within specific social sectors and across the social entrepreneurship field. You will utilize available tools such as Tableau (training provided) to create compelling visualizations that help spark meaningful insights, conversations, and partnerships.

Qualifications:

    • Comfort with data analysis including quantitative analysis and basic statistics
    • Experience with or knowledge of survey design
    • Knowledge of Excel is a plus
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize information; ability to think critically about data
    • Ability to troubleshoot; fast learner
    • Ability to work in an unstructured environment; willingness to adapt to changing objectives

3. Graphic Design Intern

Position Summary

As the Graphic Design intern, you will support our web designer in responding to the immediate platform needs of Changemakers’ online challenges. This includes responsibilities such as drafting color schemes for challenge landing pages, creating profiles of innovative Ashoka Fellows or winners, and even crafting animations and videos that illustrate the Changemakers mission or focus areas of our engagements. Overall, you will be supporting:

    • Visual Identity/ Brand Guidelines &/or Research
    • Template Design (Client Pitch Decks, Trends Reports)
    • Infographics (innovation trends, engagement timelines & strategy)
    • Social Innovator Media/Profiles Organization & Design: Print & Web
    • User Research: User Experience Research on of other competition entry based platforms

Qualifications:

    • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
    • Google Drive, Google Docs, Forms, & Spreadsheets
    • Rapid Prototyping, Sketching, White Boarding
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize information; ability to think critically about design processes and systems

4. Impact Evaluation Intern SUMMER 2017 CLOSED

Position Summary

As an Impact Evaluation intern, you will have the opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of how social sector organizations measure their impact in our constantly evolving world. You will be responsible for driving impact evaluation within Changemakers, measuring how successful we are at connecting innovators and funders to drive social change. This involves improving surveys, recommending how we can improve outcomes, and potentially developing a portal that shares our evaluation results publicly and transparently.

Qualifications:

    • Comfort with data analysis – qualitative & quantitative
    • Experience with or knowledge of survey design and/or distribution
    • Experience with specific surveying platforms like Qualtrics of QuestionPro is a plus
    • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and format information
    • Comfort working with and between different teams

5. Research & Knowledge Management Intern SUMMER 2017 CLOSED

Position Summary

Our Knowledge Team is dedicated to creating learning experiences that help changemakers succeed in making a difference, from innovation trends reports and interactive resource toolkits to online courses for social entrepreneurs and storytelling skills workshops. We are also responsible for collecting data related to these learning experiences, so that we are constantly improving our offerings. As a Research and Knowledge Management Intern, you will have the opportunity to support this research and knowledge product development, which includes responsibilities like: conducting interviews, creating self-guided learning tools, and writing case studies, reports, and innovation trend articles.

Qualifications:

    • Analytical and concise, problem-solving skills
    • High level of organizational management
    • Ability to identify gaps in knowledge and identify issues and solutions
    • A passion for knowledge and learning
    • Strong writing, interpersonal and communication skills
    • Research and analytic skills
    • Experience with or knowledge of survey design and/or distribution
    • Adobe InDesign knowledge a plus
