Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

CareerKIT integrates available premium trainings that have attached valuable networking opportunities with top and middle managers and offers them to youth through online competitions. It enables youth to take control over their career development & the partners to maximize their added value.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if we could use unused training resources for reducing the youth unemployment and the talent shortage?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Globally, there are 74,5 million unemployed youth (13,1%), while the talent shortage reached 35%. EU is the biggest developed region with high youth unemployment (23,4%), while having a talent shortage of 37%. Romania has an youth unemployment of 24,1% and the highest talent shortage among the EU countries (54%) and the ones who want to overcome this challenge can’t afford to pay the needed trainings as youth poverty & exclusion rate is 44,3%.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

CareerKIT is the 1st training community for future managers together with top managers that improves youth’s skills & employability through premium trainings, networking and unconventional recruitment opportunities. It integrates the available spots that have attached valuable networking opportunities with top & middle managers, donated by premium training companies for obtaining fiscal deductions and offers them to youth through online competitions. Corporate employers will recruit talented youth after evaluating their skills during the competitions and / or the trainings they will participate. It enables youth to better integrate on the labor market and the partners to consolidate their brand, raise sales & to obtain fiscal deductions.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

For testing the idea I’ve organized 3 competitions on my blog and I’ve received more than 9.500 likes, proving youth’s interest for this kind of opportunities and also very good feedback from my partners. The follow-up showed that all the participants improved their skills and their self confidence; also, 1 of 3 participants was recruited after interacting with managers during the training and proving his skills. The training providers received very good feedback from their clients for including youth in their programs. The employers appreciated the idea so much, that some of them, besides buying the employer brand package, intend to offer spots during their in house trainings for interacting with high potential candidates.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Until now we signed partnerships with 17 premium training companies and 28 corporations are willing to test our service before buying the employer brand packages. The primary CareerKIT’s social outcome is represented by more youth with higher skills and employability. At national level, until the end of the 5th year, we’ll offer premium trainings, networking and recruitment opportunities to 100.000 youth. The secondary social outcome is represented by more youth with higher self confidence and a higher level of employers’ trust in their potential. At national level, until the end of the 5th year we will reach 1.000.000 youth who will be able to interact with 150 employers on the platform. But CareerKIT means much more than this. Due to its synergetic effect that involves all its stakeholders, it stimulates the economy on the long run and has a multiplicative effect on job creation.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

After consolidating the business model, we will scale up the project at EU level, based on the common fiscal legislation and on the communitarian policy and measures for reducing youth unemployment. We will be able to improve the skills and employability for 1 million youth and we will increase their self confidence to 10 million youth. In January CareerKIT was exhibitor at the Social Entrepreneurs: Have your say! event organized by the European Commission & the European Economic and Social Committee, where I could interact with officials and to build connections for its future development.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Our income model is based on B2C sales (yearly subscription fees paid by youth of 12 euro), B2B sales (employer brand packages and negotiated fees for other advertising and employer branding services), EU funds and grants. We will have a NPV (@12%) of + 9.461.454 euro until the end of the 5th year at national level. The needed initial investment of 34.600 euro will be covered through my own sources and a crowd funding campaign.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Right now we don’t have product competitors, but strong category competition. Compared to the low cost training companies, CareerKIT offers to youth access to premium courses and also to valuable recruitment and networking opportunities with top and middle managers for a smaller fee. Compared to the free courses advertised through other channels, CareerKIT enables youth to perceive their real value, as they will have to compete for obtaining them and this will increase their motivation and also the trainings’ benefits both at personal and organizational level (their follow-up).

Founding Story

The idea came up during a business conference when I’ve realized that the training market’s slump leaves many available spots that can be donated to youth. The Best Idea award received at a very early stage made me understand its huge potential for solving one of the most pressing problems. What I am today is the result of the opportunities received at the beginning of my career, inclusively, as an AIESEC volunteer I’ve participated to several premium trainings together with managers offered by our partners. The great feedback received when I’ve tested the idea motivated me to do everything that is necessary to implement it successfully, as it is my way of giving back the received support.

The team is built for dealing with all the key success factors. Due to my 10 years experience in youth projects I have the needed skills & connections among corporations & youth NGOs for successfully dealing with all the non IT tasks in the start-up phase – recruiting & retaining valuable team members, keeping our brand promise daily & ensuring the operational excellence. My IT partner is in charge of ensuring the software’s security & usability.
