Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Visibility is an online platform to connect the actors in the social sector from citizens, beneficiaries, professionals, organizations, and governments to learn, connect and collaborate.

Visibility offers a knowledge center, marketplace to help everyone understand what works and what is needed.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

By sharing information and working together in a better way we could maximize our impact around the world
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The social sector is fragmented and siloed, meaning that most organizations and individuals are only aware of the communities they interact with- but we are missing the big picture. This becomes an even bigger problem when decision makers are faced with this lack of precise data and statistics.Actors are making decisions with imperfect information and we are wasting valuable resources that should be directed where and when they are needed

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Through the Visibility platform users (individuals, organizations, and projects) can create profiles and start connecting with others. The platform offers users a variety of tools: -The Knowledge Center- a place to share lessons learned and best practices -The Marketplace- where project needs can be meet by the community of users -Community Pages- connecting actors across sectors, topics, and geographies -Ratings, reviews and discussions- users will be able to connect directly with organizations and projects to give them feedback on their services -Evaluation and Metrics- users will be encourage to share their impact evaluations and metrics to encourage users to support them -Data and Analysis- to drive better decisions
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The impact that will come of out Visibility is varied, and can be measured both in the short and long term. Short term impact can be seen in the connections made on the platform. Projects that get their needs meet through the platform will be able to continue working on the ground. Supporting users to collaborate will lead to more effective operations that directly effect beneficiaries. Long term impact will be widespread and high level. By understanding how is working where, how, and what is working and what isn't we will have data to drive decision making. By changing the way the giving community (both individuals and foundations) engage with organizations and projects we will change the accountability and transparency structures.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Visibility until now has functioned offline, with the team serving as the platform. We have focused on connecting the right individuals to organizations and projects, and supported actors on the ground to get the resources they need to get their jobs done.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

We believe that Visibility must be a self sustained business, and as such we are testing a number of revenue models, including -Paid memberships (premium option). We will charge our users who wish to have full functionality a small yearly fee - Targeted advertising- we will allow specific (and clearly marked) advertising on the platform

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

A number of new organizations that have surfaced over the past few months that are working on similar issues. These organizations are still in very early stages, and offer only part of the functionality offered by Visibility. We choose to view these organizations as our partners and not our 'competition' and have already reached out to many of them to discus how we can work together and support each other.

Founding Story

Eliana's moment started over a dinner with a colleague who was working on a health project in a country in Africa. The colleague had secured a 40 million dollar grant from a major development agency to work with NGO's in the field on health education. When the colleague asked the donor for a list of NGOs they said it did not exist, and directed her to speak with the local government, who too no idea which NGOs where active in the field. Eliana had heard similar stories many times, but this was the final straw. How can we truly achieve great impact when we are working in the dark? She decided to change this. Martin was working closely with NGOs helping them attain needed resources- and saw the need to do it on a larger scale

Full Impact Potential: What are the main spread strategies moving forward? (Please consider geographic spread, policy reform, and independent replication/adoption of the idea or other mechanisms.)

We are starting with a pilot community in Israel, and will then move on to other countries. Once we gain momentum we will approach sectors (i.e. Health, Agriculture) and aim within 3 years to have members from every country in the world, and from all sectors.

Barriers: What barriers might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

We foresee challenges around getting organizations to share lessons learned and various metrics. However since the community will use this transparency as a means to decided where and how to support organizations and projects we believe this incentive will slowly break down the barrier.

Partnerships: Tell us about your partnerships.

We are partnering with a number of governments and multilateral agencies (currently in mid talks) as well as the leading actors in various sectors and fields. Furthermore we are in discussion with strategic partners who will support and facilitate the interactions made through the platform.

Closing the Loop
How does your project primarily ensure that feedback delivers results?

Help funders, governments, and other organizations to listen to and act on feedback.

Please elaborate on your answer to the above question.

While we could check most of the options above, the main aspect of Visibility is that it brings together all the actors in the social sector- and encourages them to participate, share knowledge, experiences (both positive and negative) and resources, creating not only the space for an open conversation, but the opportunity for direct participation.

Languages: In what languages are you able to read and write fluently?

English, Spanish, French, Portuguese.

2nd Round Questions
Thinking about your feedback loop; what information are you trying to get from whom, to whom, and to bring about what change?

The era of "here is our annual report, write me a check" should come to an end.

Visibility was created to break away the communication filters and time lags between whats happening on the ground and the individual that writes a check from home, between the needs of the ultimate beneficiaries and those that have the expertise, goods or time and willingness to help. We provide a platform that allows those on the ground to request exactly what they need and when they need it, so in order to obtain real support in real time basis.

What is the purpose of your feedback loop?

If other, please specify

Provide real support in terms of know how, goods, services or volunteering to the actors on the ground.

What mediums or mechanisms do you use to collect feedback? (check all that apply)

SMS, Website, Physical gathering, Other.

If other, please specify

Social Media

Could you briefly describe the way you collect the feedback?

We have developed a technology that allows for the creation of communities around a common objective. Organizations, Programs and Individuals populate the communities and share information, best practices thought blogs, postings, polls and other tools.

What mechanisms are in place to protect people from retribution?

If other, please specify

Both options, to provide feedback anonymously and information is also protected by access levels.

What are the immediate benefits or incentives for people to provide feedback?

If other, please specify

Feedback goes directly to those on the ground and seen by other stakeholders. The community sees the actions taken by projects

How do you ensure new and marginalized voices are heard?

If other, please specify

Everyone is equal in our system. All feedback obtains the same level exposure when obtained

What are the incentives for the intended recipient to act on the feedback?

If other, please specify

Those on the ground receive it directly. All the community's steak holders see it and have the capacity to support it.

How does the feedback mechanism close the loop with those who provided feedback in the first place?

If other, please specify

See actual actions taken and performance reports from the programs

How is feedback published/transparent?

On a website

If other, please specify
Give two concrete examples of how feedback loops have brought a program or policy more in line with citizens’ desires.

Visibility was built on actual feedback. The platform was designed to fulfill the market needs that were identified as a result of formal, informal and technical research.

If there was one thing you could change to increase the impact of your feedback loop, what would it be?

Developing additional incentives for broader participation

What are your biggest challenges or barriers in “closing the feedback loop”?

Ensuring the quality of the data provided

If other, please specify
Are you aware of The Feedback Store?

No, but I would like to be on it

What are the main uses you can envision for the Feedback Store?

Accessing experts and people on the ground that are willing to contribute know how and time to projects to make a difference, rather than a high fee.

What is the one thing you would most like to see changed to improve the competition process?
What are you doing to make sure that feedback providers know that they are empowered by the information they can give and that they know exactly what the information they are providing?

Visibility is a fully transparent system. Feedback providers have the capacity to interact with actors on the ground and discuss the implementation of their feedback.
